Todmorden, the north of England
A community project to grow food in every available space has taken off. Founded three years ago, “Incredible Edible” has planted fruit trees, vegetables and herbs in car parks, at roadsides, public parks… and all with volunteers alone! The produce is for the community to then harvest themselves.
Pam Warhurst, co-founder of the project, tells their story with passion and humour… Do watch if you have a moment. This is great stuff!

What fun!
Pam Warhurst could make anything sound fun I reckon! What a personality!
Thats so cool
Gets you thinking, doesn’t it!
I just hope they never get a groundhog over there! My poor garden has been stripped all year long by a hungry little beastie… and they multiply like crazy. Still… with energy like hers I have hope we’ll outsurvive the beasties in this quest.
I suppose they could get mice or rabbits…. but they seem to be doing well so far!
Oh, the mice and rabbits don’t bother me. They only nibble around the edges. They are welcome to everything they desire. I have one rabbit that only like my dandelions … The problem with groundhogs is that they eat everything down to bare ground.
My goodness! Glad we don’t have them here!
Incredible edible is an amazing project that really demonstrates how much can be achieved by a small group of people who are determined to change things for the better.
I had not heard of it until seeing this TED Talk, and was really impressed. I hope it catches on and other communities try similar projects.
Oh Cathy this is fabulous and I plan to link back in a future post and send this out on Google + and Facebook…I want to know where in the US they are doing this…wow!
It’s amazing isn’t it! I hope you find something similar in the States… let me know if you do!
Such an inspiration! I’d heard about this a while ago – great to see it getting more publicity (and through a TED, even better). Thanks for spreading the word, Cathy!
I hope this catches on in other places too!
Interesting! I will save this to listen to while I quilt. TED talks make wonderful company for me while I work.
I enjoy them too… every so often a treasure pops up!
That was fabulous. i’d like to live in a community that was interested in doing something like that. Thanks for telling us about it.
Wouldn’t it be great! I think you need a few dedicated people to get something like that off the ground though!
Yes, i’m sure you do – but I’m sure they’re out there – just have to find them
