We’ve eaten a lot of scones recently – they are simple and quick as well as being relatively healthy compared to a muffin or slice of cake. And since discovering I can freeze them before baking, I value them even more! Here’s a round-up of all the scone recipes I’ve posted so far…
~~~
The Traditional
At any time of year, but especially in the summer, we love a proper English Cream Tea; fresh plain scones, strawberry jam and clotted cream, and a cup of English tea – mmmmm!
~~~
The Seasonal
In the autumn and winter I love to use cranberries in scones, and in combination with orange or lemon, or white chocolate (my latest scone experiment!) they are best eaten warm, just from the oven.
~~~
The Unusual
Last year I also added a little cocoa to them and used them in a rhubarb cobbler. Scrumptious!
The Fruity
Blueberry and cream scones are also tasty. Or drop scones – actually more like pancakes – with blueberry sauce.
The Savoury
And if all these are still too sweet for you, how about savoury scones, simply with cheese and herbs, or a buttermilk version with dill for example.
Have you ever made homemade clotted cream, or something close? We can’t get it here, I wonder if it’s possible to make.
I order mine from a British Shop online… not the fresh stuff as it’s “long-life” in a jar, but tastes very good! Have no idea if you can make your own…. let me know if you ever find a recipe!
wonderful! These all look extremely tasty!
They all disappeared very quickly!
mmmmm….I love all your scone posts and hope to try a few!!!!
The mixing and forming the dough is also part of the pleasure of making scones, as they are so easy – you can’t go wrong!
Your food photography is excellent. And, I must say that you are one good cook. The scones are wonderful to look at but I’m afraid these would be habitat forming, if I could eat them.
Thank you! I’ve been making scones for years and they always turn out well.
So tempting!
Looking Delicious! Are you shipping them overseas????
An interesting business idea!
Scones are a favourite with me.
With me too – they’re just so quick to make and always taste good!
Perfect timing, Cathy. My boss was asking me just last week if I had a good recipe! Now he does, thanks to you!
Glad I could help out!
All your scones surely taste delicious, but the traditional English ones are heavenly!
Have a nice Sunday, Cathy!
Thank you Elisabeth – have a good week!
I didn’t realise you could freeze scones before baking – do they need to be defrosted before they go in the oven? All your scones look delicious – got me looking forward to the cranberry and white chocolate version!
Just take them out of the freezer and pop them in the pre-heated oven! They take only a couple of minutes longer than usual to bake! I was so glad I tried it out, as a batch is often too much for two or three people. They taste exactly the same as fresh ones, and so much better than re-heating!
Those scones have made me want to bake this afternoon! Like Sarah, I didn’t realise you can freeze them before baking. What a great idea – perfect for unexpected guests!!
Precisely! I know scones only take a few minutes to prepare anyway, but if a friend drops by I don’t want to be in the kitchen!
I have been enjoying cranberry and white chocolate scones in the morning before work. Delightful.
How nice! I love the combination of sweet chocolate and tart berries.
Yum, yum, yum!!! I’ve missed your blog while I’ve been away and what a wonderful post to come back to
it’s making me hungry again!!
Well, after all that activity in the mountains, you should treat yourself!
Die Aufnahmen sehen so lecker aus! Liebe Grüsse – Uta
Danke Uta! Have a nice week!
Hi
I have a nice woman from England who also goes to weight watchers and I was telling her about your funky pancakes, scones and how things are the same as ours but then so very different. She said she can not get exactly the right kind of ingredients for so many things. We have a British store we will go check out 20 min from home I thought it was an import or export company not for re-sale but come to find out there is a store just inside their doors maybe I will do a blog on it if they allow me to
can’t hurt to ask it is not something I would ever think would be found in a small NH town
We were supposed to get huge snowfall last night and it missed us I am a HAPPY GIRL back is killing me so I will do some yoga and no weigh in maybe take last nights roast chicken and make Croquet’s my honey has never had them and I LOVE THEM been years since I took the time to make them but with temps so cold I think it will be perfect I will also soak my butter beans for a yummy soup he hates soups so it took me 5 days to eat the one I posted lol
Have a great day
Eunice
Hope you get to hear about that shop if you do visit it… enjoy your supper and take it easy on your back. It’s cold and damp here today, but freezing again from tomorrow. The snow is now heavy, so glad I cleared most of it round the house already!
Yes feeling better finally
Stay warm Cathy
I loooove traditional scones with jam and clotted cream. The chocolate ones with the cobbler were also very good. I haven’t made the other recipes yet. Perhaps I should write a list
Lists are always good!
