Tuesday at Two (April 23rd)

What a beautiful day!

It’s a breezy day – a cool wind but when the sun comes out really warm. And spring is rushing along now.

After congratulating my dear neighbour, Mr Barth, on his 101st birthday this morning, I gathered some wild Bear’s Garlic from beneath his Magnolia Tree, which is just starting to flower.

My Ornamental Fuji Cherry (Prunus Incisa Kojo-no-Mai) is also flowering now, just to the left of my Tuesday view…

I saw this cherry in my Mum’s garden last year at Easter and fell in love with it – when I returned home my local garden centre had them on sale! (The bees love it too!)

Later I’ll be planting some English Mint, Pineapple Sage and Parsley, and sowing my carrots, chard and kale.

Bear’s Garlic Pesto for dinner tonight!

What are you sowing/planting in the next week or so?

  1. Are you sowing direct yet? Weather here still isn’t really warm enough for sowing much – I have some carrots, radish and lettuce under fleece, but no signs of anything germinating yet.

    • My carrots and leafy veg/salad are all in containers outside in a sheltered spot. If there’s a danger of frost I’ll wrap them in fleece too. The flowers I’ve sown are in a mini “greenhouse” (basically shelves with a plastic cover) and the tomatoes are still indoors. It’s nerve-wracking watching the weather reports every night though!

  2. Your Fuji Cherry is a beautiful tree! Your enthusiasm is very infectious! And I wish I could also add my own birthday blessing on your neighbor, Cathy! 101! Isn’t that just wonderful? How nice to know someone who has attained such a special number on his birthday cake. oxo

  3. Your little cherry tree is gorgeous! How lucky you got it in the sale! I’ll be sowing some chard and kale this weekend too plus more beetroot, tons of flowers – I’ve got some interesting perennials to have a go with and a whole load more veggies. It’s going to be cold for us again this weekend though so I’ll start them in my house. The seedlings I had on my windowsills are now in the greenhouse so I have space for some new batches πŸ™‚

    • I’m putting some seedlings out in the day to acclimatise, but haven’t dared to leave them out overnight yet – another week perhaps… Look forward to seeing what flowers you’re growing this year. πŸ˜€
