After a very cool spell, with lots of rain, the garden is looking lush and healthy. Two iris flowers have opened, but the big red peony buds still haven’t braved the cold nights and unfurled. Maybe it will warm up enough for them in the next few days…
The Ice Saints (days in the middle of May when we very often get a cold snap) are nearly over – the last one, Cold Sophie, is tomorrow night. I can sow my last seeds soon!
😀
Ice Saints sounds scary. Our May this year is not warm in fact I shivered when I first got into bed last night, but already the ground is really warm when I put my hands into it. Christina
It’s been so cool after a couple of mild weeks – quite a shock to the system!
We had to put the heat back on last night, but it looks like tonight will be the end of the Really Cold Temps…
Love your View!
We’re hoping the same too Marie. We had to turn up our radiators last night as well!
Our peonies are just opening and they are glorious!
How lovely – I’m checking mine 2 or 3 times a day, as the first ones are always such a joy!
Beautiful! When can I come over and host a tea party? This is my idea of heaven.
You’re welcome any time if you’re bringing cake for the party!!! 😉
We are having a coldish snap too – thinking of lighting a fire tonight.
Come on hurry up the peony 🙂
Can’t blame it for keeping closed really – so chilly the past two or three days! A fire would be nice….
Very interesting, the concept of the Ice Saints. I rather like it.
And it is so often true… like many of the old weather proverbs here!
Pankracy, Bonifacy,Serwacy,Zofia the cold gardeners in Poland 🙂 I risked it and started to plant out late last week.
I put my tomatoes out, as we’d had night time temperatures of 11 to 15 degrees… hope they survive the chill, even if there’s no frost it is still chilly for many plants.
Love your view! I hope we are done freezing here!

Thanks Linda – looks like it should warm up soon!
It’s about time things warmed up a bit again… but it’s nice to see the leaves back on the trees!
The surrounding hills are also looking so lush and green! Our forecast is for 24 degrees tomorrow… Hope you get some warm sun soon too, Sarah. 😀
I love this idea of the Ice Saints…we get them too and had them…they seem to be gone and we are headed for veg garden planting in earnest.
It seems you’re warming up nicely as well then, Donna. Happy gardening!
Cathy, your view is so lush and vivid. I too am waiting on the peony buds to open. It’s been very cool here as well, down to 40F last night, but warming up into the 80s later in the week. That should encourage the peonies it’s ok to bloom. Enjoyed reading about the Ice Saints today. Susie
I’ll be checking the peonies again in a while! 😉
We have had 26 °C today in Northern Germany 🙂 I´ll send you some warmth. 🙂 Uta
Thanks Uta! It was a lot warmer today at last!
Oh my, don’t the tuesdays fly by…. however it was warm Sophie this year 😉
Yes, but still very cool at night. Have a nice weekend Simone!
And you!
Bautiful!
Isn’t the world pretty in spring! LOL!
Sure is
Looks like the perfect place for a picnic!
I’ll put down our picnic rug and you can come over for some tea and cake! 😉
