Happy Spring Equinox!
(5.57pm Central European Time)
I started to celebrate spring early this year, and did a little “potting up” a couple of weeks ago…
๐
Yes, they are edible! ๐
This was such fun to create. I just made some chocolate cupcakes, stuck them in pots, added a little buttercream and covered them with more crumbled cupcake. You need a thick straw in the middle, or little glass tubes like in the photo below (I buy my vanilla beans in them), some fresh flowers, and a guest or two to help you eat them… and admire them in between bites! ๐
I found some vegetarian jelly worms some time ago, saved for the occasion, and the pots were bought last year with this project in mind… I decided to just bake the cupcakes as normal in paper cases and pop them in the pots afterwards.
If, like me, you have given up cake for Lent, this may be a nice idea for Easter…?
I’d like to mention Donna’s meme Seasonal Celebrations here. At Gardens Eye View Donna’s site is full of fabulous photos and snippets of information and folklore about wild flowers and native plants. If you haven’t already visited, do take a look at her site and some of the contributors to her meme this spring.
๐
What a perfect idea for spring! I shared this on my FB page.
Thanks Janine! I think there are lots of possibilities here… ๐
How creative Cathy! When I girls were younger, they would have loved doing something like this! ๐
Happy Spring!!!! ๐
Michael
I get these phases where I enjoy doing fun and childish activities! LOL! Must be spring fever!
Incredibly cute!
Thanks Shatarupa – nice of you to stop by!
What a great idea! Iยดm still smiling ๐ .
Keep smiling Uta! ๐ ๐
What a great welcome to spring!
๐ It was fun Susie!
What fun! You should enter this as your Vase on Monday! Where did you find such lovely little flower pots?
The pots were in our local DIY store – the smallest and second smallest size they had, and only a few cents each too! I liked the little saucers especially! ๐
Oh, that is so sweet and perfectly spring-y! We’re right in the middle of a snowstorm here right now, a cupcake and a flower would definitely cheer me up. ๐
You poor thing – more snow? Hope this will be the last of it. Baking may be good therapy!
Great idea and very seasonal! My son is making decorated cupcakes next week for his food technology assessment. I may well show him your post and see if he likes the cakes as much as I do… hope you don’t mind a bit of stealing of ideas!
Feel free Sarah! I think a spring theme for a school project may go down well!
That’s so cool! Totally in love with the idea, will steal! ๐
Please do – and spread the idea around – seems a lot of people out there are still in the depths of winter and need cheering up with some cupcake love! ๐
Just the encouragement I need. Will do!
What a cute idea! Those are adorable.
The idea has been there for quite a while – glad I finally got round to making them! ๐
I know that feeling. Good for you.
What a wonderful idea; they look wonderful. I guess the same idea would work with a chocolate pudding too.
I suppose so, although that may be a bit messy to eat! LOL! If you have ovenproof flowerpots though…. Thanks for visiting Anne!
These are really lovely, what a brilliant idea too for the tubes. Thank you too for the link to Donnas blog, I have just signed up. Do you ever find that blog spot posts do not always show up in the wordpress reader?
Hi Julie. Donna’s site is great isn’t it! I’ve found I have to edit the “blogs I follow” in the reader as they are automatically set to send no notification of new posts… bit silly really. Hope it gets sorted for you Julie.
Well, I’d say you have to prove this first! Bring one along and I’ll tell you, Cathy ๐ Fab idea!!!
I’ll make a whole batch and we can stick daffodils from your meadow in them! I’m sure that would convince you… ๐
Shock and horror!!! I’ll never chop off my beloved daffs ๐
LOL!
So adorable! A fantastic welcome to spring! It is so exciting to be part of the earth’s waking from winter!
I agree – it is a lovely time of year and we have had such a warm spell to get us in the mood! ๐
Oh wow! These are SO cute! I’m definitely making them, although I doubt they’ll be as pretty as yours ๐
I bet they would be – your photos are always so lovely! ๐ If you do make some it would be great to see your version!
These are so beautiful! My mom and I made flower pot bread for spring many years ago, I will always remember how fun that was. ๐
That sounds like a great idea too! ๐ Have a lovely weekend!
Looks delicious! But I think the extra people to help eat them would be superfluous.
Chocolate cake with buttercream is gaining popularity in this house (I never used to like chocolate cake much before!) so you may be right – scrap the guests part! LOL!
You gave me a good laugh! The worms are perfect ๐
I was going to bury the worms under the buttercream but was worried someone might get a shock! ๐
Too cute! I bet they were tasty ๐
How can chocolate and buttercream NOT be tasty! ๐ Hope all’s well with you Eunice! xx
All is great stitches came out Monday and you can not tell he even cut me he must be worth his weight in GOLD for some woman ๐
Now to set up appointment for shoulder surgery since it seems winter is never ending ๐ pain to bad to wait even longer ๐ฆ but I am having a blast with watercolor painting ๐ I forget there is a world around me covered in WHITE ๐
Hope you are loving your spring warmth and blooms ๐
Good to hear your first treatment went well, let’s just hope that guy has a brother who does shoulder surgery just as well! ๐ Take care!
How true ๐
The next doctor is sweet and kind and knows I want to get better he will be happy to hear from me tomorrow ๐
How absolutely adorable. I like the idea of baking them in the cupcake papers and then putting them in the potsโฆso much easier to eat. ๐
Hi Karen. That was my thinking too – I had thought of baking them in the pots, but it would have meant using spoons! ๐
MMMMHHHHH!
I take it you enjoyed them Simone! ๐ (Worms and all!)
Oh I missed this post and will add it to the meme wrap up. You are so clever Cathy!! Thank you for the mention!
Thanks for adding me in so late Donna! ๐
