In A Vase On Monday: A Bunch of Sunshine

It must be summer!

Vase2ndJune2

My dear neighbour, Ingrid, rang the doorbell on Saturday and handed over this delightful bunch of flowers picked from the edge of the cornfield beyond our garden gate.

Danke Ingrid!

Field Poppies, Cornflowers and Chamomile are the main characters,

but the Sweet Peas are the star!

Of course, I had to go and look at the field later that afternoon, to see it for myself…

Cornfield

Isn’t that a glorious sight!

Cathy’s meme “In a Vase on Monday” is intended to encourage us to look in our gardens for flowers to cut each week, but I suppose I’m cheating a bit as they aren’t exactly in my garden…

…but very nearly – only just beyond the garden gate. 😉

Thanks for hosting again Cathy. Take a look at her vase and others who have linked in at “Rambling in the Garden”.

  1. You’re way ahead of us here in France with your field poppies. Not many at all yet. They do look so fabulous in the cornfields though don’t they?

  2. What could be lovelier than a bunch of June wild flowers? I love them, the colours look so beautiful together. I would love to have a view like that to look out on. Our fields are full of crops.
I love that little sweet pea.

    • I’m so pleased they don’t use weedkiller in that field. One year they planted it with just sunflowers and left them standing for the birds…. 🙂

  3. This is lovely and wonderful to see a corn field with wild flowers. A stunning arrangement in your vase., I particularly like the inclusion of the grasses.

    • I’m not sure what all the grasses are, but they do complete the look. We see a lot of fields with poppies in, but I’ve never seen cornflowers in one near us so it was a lovely surprise!

    • Absolutely… If we didn’t have a well-used public footpath around two sides of the garden I’d get rid of the fence so we could see it better! LOL!

  4. Oh, to live *just* outside a field like that! It must be glorious. I love my garden filled with flowers, but I’ve never had a field (except when I was a child.) In those days, I used to go to the field and hide out to think and be alone. The flower arrangement your neighbor and friend brought to you is precious. What a dear neighbor you have. Nature makes perfect combinations.

    • I used to love roaming the fields near my childhood home too, and we had poppies in cornfields then, but never cornflowers as far as I remember. I agree entirely – when nature puts colours together they always go well with each other and never seem mismatched!

  5. How beautiful! The photo of the field of poppies reminds me of the first time I visited Germany, and was amazed at the sight.

  6. Wonderful bouquet and neighbour! Lucky girl, Cathy. You live in a beautiful spot – I also enjoy seeing pics of the landscape. Enjoy it, it’s so precious!

  7. oh lordy, if that isn’t just a slice of heaven i don’t know what is. This field is just behind your house? Your arrangement is terribly happy!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂 I love it on its own, but then that field. Well, that’s quite the arrangement isn’t it?

  8. I like this cornfield with the beautiful wildflowers of summer in it. Last week my husband picked such a wonderful bunch for me when he was walking along with our dog.

  9. Your vase is like a cornfield in miniature – what a kind neighbour you have. A field like yours is such a rare sight over here, we’ve become accustomed to seeing weed free (flower free) expanses of cereals. It’s such a shame.

    • Thank goodness they don’t always spray them here. We don’t have that many cornfields in this region, but when I see one it is usually dotted with poppies. 🙂

  10. Just beyond the garden gate is fine, Cathy – it all fits within the original idea, and aren’t they gorgeous?! But as everyone says, seeing a whole field of them is stupendous!

  11. Sorry, clicked before I meant to! There must be acres/hectares of them there – I see they are growing among a crop. Is it barley, do you know? Thanks so much for joining in – it is inspiring to have such a range of contributions, isn’t it?

    • I think you’re right Cathy, and it’s barley not corn! I was focusing on the flowers more than the crop. 🙂 I’m loving seeing all the different ideas from other vases too!

  12. What a beautiful field – you are so lucky to have that so close! The field poppies are out around here as well, but they just edge fields of crops on the whole. Your flowers are beautiful – a real summer day sight.

  13. What a tremendous neighborly gift–so beautiful Cathy to see your arrangement and the nearby fields. I love the Cornflowers and Chamomile together especially.

  14. How beautiful they are! This sign of summer is wonderful to look at. And it’s a great thing that it is growing everywhere.

  16. oh my! What a glorious site. To be polite, I’d tell you I’m ‘envious’. But in fact, I’m totally ‘jealous’ this it what backs up to your garden gate. Very pretty indeed.

    • I am lucky, I know! I just hope the field is used for something pretty again this summer. One year we had a field full of sunflowers there! 🙂 Thanks for visiting!
