In a Vase on Monday: A Happy Anniversary!

Yesterday was the anniversary of my first post on Words and Herbs… FIVE years ago! We went for a walk in the rain and remembered getting caught in a vicious hailstorm with the dogs almost five years ago too… doesn’t time fly!

The garden is looking rather soggy after three days of almost non-stop rain, but I took advantage of a brief interval in the rain to pick some flowers for today’s vase, so that I can join Cathy again at Rambling in the Garden for her inspiring meme.

The photos had to be taken indoors, with the help of some lamps. Yes, when the sun fails to shine the light is most definitely fading now – autumn is noticeably on the doorstep. But the sedums are at their best, and the grasses are glorious. Welcome autumn – come in and have a cup of tea!

The contents of my teapot ‘vase’ this week include various sedums, a pink ‘The Fairy’ rose, my beautiful rose ‘Gertrude Jekyll’ which smells delicious, some Verbena bonariensis, Cosmos ‘Candy Stripe’, a peachy pink Zinnia, some pink asters ‘Alma Pรถtschke’, a Heuchera flower, a ‘Cheyenne Spirit’ Echinacea, some peony foliage and a few sprigs of Miscanthus.

Has autumn knocked on your door yet?

Have a lovely week!

  1. This is lovely Cathy. Your sedum has a nice rich color and I like the use of the teapot. Glad you had some rain too but hope you’re not inundated. Congratulations on reaching your 5-year mark. I love reading your posts.

  2. Congratulations Cathy, you’ve managed to keep your blog full of interest through the years, not easy! Your vase doesn’t shout autumn yet even though the Sedums are a nod in that direction. It is a very pretty combination of colours and textures. We seem to have had similar weather; there’s been a lot of rain here too.

  3. What a pleasing bouquet and I love your pretty teapot, Cathy. ‘Gertrude Jekyll’ is lovely and the sedums and grass really point to the truth that fall is upon us. The leaves are really starting to show it here, though we are in the midst of a tropical system that has brought some much needed rain, but also high humidity. A bit of Florida weather!

  4. I love your autumn imagery, Cathy – it’s peeping through the windows here but hasn’t really knocked on the door yet! Your pink selection of blooms looks especially lovely in that pretty jug – do you ever put blue cornflowers in it?! Congratulations on 5 years blogging – after the first couple of years the months fly past, don’t they?

  5. Congratulations on your blogging anniversary, Cathy! Your flowers weathered the rain well. Three days of rain! I can only imagine – and yearn for – such an experience! We’ve been enjoying the cooler days and nights we associate with fall, although the heat was back on this weekend. There’s a thunderstorm in the forecast with tropical moisture coming up from Mexico but, sadly, the chance of rain here is low.

  6. Sitting through a serious tstorm here, 3-4 inches of rain. Lovely colors and the teapot sets everything off beautifully. I have forgotten about The Fairy Rose, one of my favorites, so I was happy to see that and the bits of Miscanthus. Fall is in the air.

  7. Many congratulations on five years of blogging Cathy. I think that you’re here to stay ๐Ÿ™‚ That’s a most appealing arrangement – no wonder that dragonfly is hovering around in the background. It’s definitely between the seasons here with autumn slowly gaining the upper hand.

    • Thank you Anna.Yes, Cathy’s meme certainly kept me posting last autumn and winter and Christina persuaded me to do my Tuesday view again, so the support you all give me is just great!

  8. 5 years is an achievement. Congratulations. I love the colours of your posy and they look so lovely in your cornflower teapot.
I wish we could have some of your sog. We still need a good soak here.

    • It actually wasn’t as much rain as we thought, despite being continuous… the showers we had in spring and early summer produced more in one go than these past few days altogether!

  9. I’m so impressed that you captured such beautiful shots with the light so low you required extra lamplight. Beautiful indoor photography. and a beautiful vase, for sure. The days are shorter but other than that, we’re still experiencing quite a bit of summer heat. What else is new! But my garden and I are adjusting, Cathy. LOL!

      • I hope so! Are you enjoying yourself? I get bored at times, and try to find a fresh new way to approach things. But the relationships I’ve built through blogging always keep bringing me back. How about you?

        • I did get bored last year but am slowly getting back into it again. Like you say, the blogging friends keep me coming back and wanting to join in the fun! I’ve decided to make a big effort in November to post a few recipes. ๐Ÿ™‚
