Monday is the day I join Cathy at Rambling in the Garden for her lovely meme. The title of today’s vase refers not only to where the photo was taken, but also to where I spent all day – working in the garden. It was wonderful! I saw the first bee. I saw the first crocus. I ache all over!
And I picked some snowdrops.
π
To fill out the vase I added a few Spring Snowflakes (Leucojum vernum), which also have a lovely name in German – March Bells (MΓ€rzglΓΆckchen).
In addition, I still have some Hippeastrum flowering, including this beauty which is almost the same as the red one I posted a few weeks ago.
As it started to lean to one side I decided to cut it, and discoveed another two shoots coming.
Today was a good day.
Hope you have a good start to the week too!
I am envious of your day in the garden, it has been horrible here. I love your sweet Leucojum vernum flowers, like little pixie hats. A gorgeous Hippeastrum too.
I think your weather is coming our way Chloris! Yes, the Leucojum really have fairytale quality, don’t they?! π
It is nice to see snowdrops from all the world. Many have been posting them as a first sign of spring.
I’m enjoying seeing them on other blogs too, π
Gorgeous little vase of joy. The aching is almost a joy too, isn’t it?
It is, Alison! The weather changed (more storms on the way), so I have time to recover before the next bout of activity! π
I love the name marchbells. We have had rain wind and hail today so I too am envious of your day.
We are getting your weather now Dorris, but it was nice to have a warmish day AND the time to go outside! π
Very wise use of your limited inventory. The leucojum and snowdrops are lovely. Thanks for sharing.
Having little choice is not always a bad thing! π
Oh what a lovely day you have had – a bit like my Sunday, I think, but without the aches! And your vase makes such a statement (spring is coming!) π Are the markings on the leucojum really as yellow as they look in the photos? Such a sumptious red on your hippeastrum too – thanks for sharing your joy at all these lovely things
When the light catches them the Leucojum markings are quite yellow, otherwise a greenish yellow – more yellow than green anyway! I always do too much at the start of the gardening year, and after the long winter break I rediscover muscles I had forgotten about! LOL! Still, time to recover now your storm is coming our way… π
And I must have done more bending today as I could feel it more! Hope the storm doesn’t wreak too much havoc
I needed that. Thank you. π
You’re welcome. π It did me good too!
Lovely little spring bouquet!
Your hippeastrum looks the color of fresh berries – rich!
Hope your body recovers! π
Thanks Eliza! Yes, the aches are easing after doing too much in one go – I get carried away when I can finally start work outside! Now that March is here perhaps you will have some warmer days too.
Yes, there is a lot of melting going on, the streams are rushing with run-off and the yard is slowly emerging from the snow cover. Then we’ll have a few weeks of mud-season as the ground thaws! π
The arrival of spring is one of the best times of the year! Your post is a good reminder that I should spend time in the garden now. There is weeding and bed cultivation to be done!
The weeding is never-ending, isn’t it! I was amazed at how many weeds had either grown in late autumn and overwintered, or popped up within a few days of the weather warming up! LOL!
Lovely way to display your snowdrops and snowflakes. Spring here has been very early, but never noticed my snowflakes this year. Wonder if I missed them altogether or they just didn’t make it. I had a couple of hours working in the garden recently and it felt glorious. Glad you are able to enjoy being out in your garden Cathy.
I remember your Snowflakes from last year, and I think they are Summer Snowflakes (Leucojum aestivum), which actually flower in mid-spring in many climates. So they might be along soon. It does feel good to get outside again, doesn’t it! π
That first day out side does give a real boost doesn’t it? I was outside all day too π
π Especially good after being cooped up indoors for far too long! π
Snowdrops! I love those. So especially so at this time of year. Coldest winter since 1980 here. I am appreciative of any sign of spring.
Very nice. π
I am sure your spring will be along soon Nancy, Happy March! π
…just around the corner Spring lies in wait..about to pounce…
So pleased for you that you’ve finally been able to get out into the garden! Are the Leucojum the open flowers with the yellow stamen that look like snowdrops? I have never heard of them but they are lovely.
Yes, they are sometimes called giant snowdrops here too. These grow in the hedge opposite my kitchen window and I love that moment when I catch the first glimpse of white! π
Nothing feels better than the ache from the first days of getting out in the garden!
Too true. I always intend to do some stretching exercises to prepare for the bending and balancing in the rockery, but never get round to it!
The March Bells are lovely. Are you rested and ready to go again?
To be honest, there is not much more I can do until things start growing. Still early days here Brian! (Mind you, the weeds seem to like the cold too! π )
Ah, happy happy gardening Cathy! A lovely, fancy vase – the Leucojum go so nicely with the snowdrops.
Thank you Joanna. I didn’t want to pick too many of the snowdrops still tightly in bud, so the Snowflakes were a nice filler.
The Snowdrops are delightful and the Hippeastrum are luscious.
Thanks Jason. I think this is the best red Hippeastrum I have grown. π Shame it had no name on it!
How nice to see the green grass, too! A very tired and achy body after a long day in the garden is a satisfied fatigue, most often! I’m sure you’re just getting started on many pleasurable days outdoors! I just love the snowflakes, Cathy!
The gardening season has definitely begun, albeit rather hesitantly. Maybe another crocus or two will open today if the sun shines!
That ache from all day working in the garden is such a satisfying feeling. π Especially when you can have it in February!
I agree, Bill. Although there is not much more I can do out there until it warms up just a little bit more… time for the muscles to recover! π
I can hear the uplifting sunshine in your words Cathy and how absolutely lovely your vase is too.
Thank you Julie. Just one day of sunshine and garden activity can work wonders! Hope there will be more soon!
It’s thrilling to see your garden start to bloom, Cathy! I love your snowdrops and “March Bells” π It’s lovely that you still have the amaryllis in bloom too.
Well, you have already discovered my Tuesday View post, but I will add the link here anyway, especially now that I’ve gotten the problems worked out with posting the last two photos…: https://www.smallsunnygarden.com/2017/02/28/tuesday-view-a-few-raindrops/
The garden is very slowly waking up Amy, but it seems to be taking so long! Still, it is early days yet. In the meantime it is lovely to see your weekly view and warmth-loving flowers. π
I love bringing the snowdrops inside where their delicacy can be truly appreciated. That’s a perfect vase for them.
Thank you Ricki. I shall bring more in this weekend too. π
Beautiful vases, Cathy. What a sumptuously rich red.
Thanks Kate. The second bud on that Amaryllis is growing fast now too. π
It is wonderful when you can start working in the garden as it start to wake from its winter sleep. Love the little vase with the tiny flowers.
Exactly, and I feel like I am awaking from hibernation too when I can finally get outside! π
Cathy, that first photo is a dream. I’m smiling just looking at it. I’m happy to see your snowdrops made an appearance. They’re lovely.
Thanks Alys. It’s been a good week, with a few crocuses now appearing too. π Have a lovely Sunday!
Thank you, Cathy.
Lovely flowers! How wonderful to spend the Monday in a garden! Flowers must be all over the place and the garden even more beautiful by now!
Thank you Lou Min!
