In a Vase on Monday: An Early Spring Posy

This posy is posing beautifully for my Monday vase, as I join Cathy at Rambling in the Garden and the many other participants of her lovely meme.

Crocus in yellow, white and purple, red and white Hellebores, a snowdrop or two, a sprig of Mahonia foliage, and Dwarf Iris – the pale one with yellow markings and blue veins is ‘Katherine Hodgkin’, which loves this dry spot.

Which side do you like best?

Or how about this?

Or this?

I think she is rather vain, this posy… but doesn’t she have reason to be?

😉

  1. Oh, possibly the mifddle one, but I couldn’t say why 😉 Isn’t it good to have these early spring flowers to pop in a vase though? You must be thrilled after your long winter 🙂

    • 🙂 Oh yes, spring is coming along really slowly after all that frosty weather we had, but that allows me time to enjoy it for a change. 😉

    • The yellow crocus are the first flower to appear here and when I see one peeping out of the leaves and winter debris it is like finding gold!

  2. Hiya Cathy with the hat,
That blue of the little I. danfordia[?] stands out so clearly. What a pretty concoction.
BTW, do you like making a posy in your hand, by adding flowers one at a time? I know there is a word for that, but words escape me these days ….

    • I. danfordia are yellow I think. This blue one must be one of the I. histrioides which range from blue to purple. I very often put my flowers for a vase together that way, arranging them in my hand as I walk around the garden, only occasionally rearranging them indoors. 🙂

    • They last longer in the garden! Although one of the hellebores still looks fine, all the others have faded now. Still, that was three days. 🙂
