My vase for this week is a single flower from the first stem of my Hippeastrum ‘Red Peacock’.
I am sure there are many more imaginative and varied vases joining Cathy at Rambling in the Garden today, so do take a look. It will certainly brighten up my evening and I am looking forward to settling down under a cosy wrap later to enjoy fellow bloggers’ colourful contributions from other parts of the world!
You do have a lot of success with your Hippeastrums, this is another beauty. Keep warm; have you had more snow?
It is sleeting and snowing right now Christina. And a winter storm is forecast for the next few days. I don’t think it will be cold enough for much snow though, but the damp and wind is somehow more chilling when out walking!
Yes, I agree with that; the cloudy damp days here feel much colder than the bright clear ones even when the thermometer says that isn’t true.
Cathy is beautiful. Your hippeastrum is going on for a long time. You have dared to cut a flower! Keep the heat. Greetings from Margarita.
Thanks Margarita. Yes, this flower had to be cut as it was growing at such an angle that it was threatening to uproot the bulb!
I think it is a good idea to cut your lovely hippeastrum. Mine grow taller and taller until they topple over.
This one grew so lopsided right from the start. Still more buds coming! 😀
A stunning bloom, we need things like that in January.
I agree. A splash of bright colour. 🙂
A beautiful bloom. I think you are lucky to have anything to stick into a vase. Happy IAVOM
Well, I always make sure I have some Hippeastrums indoors to keep me going through the winter. I haven’t even ventured into the garden for several days now!
It’s a beautiful bloom and I hope it helps warm your day, Cathy! My first Hippeastrum bloom opened today, after I took and posted my Bloom Day photos of course.
I wonder if you will cut any of yours for vases. I don’t usually, but this was an emergency as it was in danger of toppling over!
Your Red Peacock is spectacular. I’ve always stayed with the single types, but if I keep seeing glorious doubles like this I’ll succumb eventually… 😉 Your setting is lovely also!
Thanks Amy! I love them all, double or single. There are so many pretty ones to choose from too. 🙂
Red Peacock is lovely. Happy Monday.
Thank you. Have a great week!
Oh a double red hippeastrum – this peacock can strut all he likes as he is stunning! Hope you are OK there, tucked up under your cosy wrap, Cathy…
Hi Cathy. I am feeling very fed up with January, but it is so cheering to see all the other vases and at least we are not snowed in or frozen up! (I think we have what the Americans call ‘mud season’! LOL!)
Oh, I am so sorry that January is proving to be tough for you, Cathy – let’s hope you get some rays of sunshine and a hint of warmth before long
Vibrancy to brighten up this gray day!
I hooe your day isn’t too grey Eliza. Wishing you a sunny week!
Thank you, Cathy. Snowstorm today and tomorrow. Such a winter we’re having!
Wow, I have an after image on my retinas!! What a fantastic flower.
😉 It’s a great colour, isn’t it!
You could almost warm your hands over that flower.
I must try it…. no, didn’t feel any warmth, but trying certainly made me smile Ricki! 😉
A perfectly bold and colorful sight for a gloomy January day. We’re also in the midst of some winter weather today, but the calendar is starting to look a little better 😉
And I can notice the daylight slowly increasing, despite the grey skies! 🙂
Exquisite!
Thanks Sheryl!
Love the ‘Red Peacock’! Warms me up just to look at it.
Oh yes. It’s the right colour for this weather!
That is so pretty! Any blooms are appreciated this time of year. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Beth. These are being appreciated to the full, most definitely! 🙂
It’s a glorious specimen Cathy. Lovely to have such a cheery flower.
Thanks Susie. The second flower opened yesterday too. 🙂
A beautiful sign of life in a dreary winter. Thanks!😊
You’re welcome Margaret. We need all the colour we can get at this time of year! 😉
And a lovely red it was!
It’s still flowering like mad’
Nice!
This is one pretty flower❤️
Thanks! 🙂
Your beautiful red peacock can certainly stand on its own against any competition. 🙂
The second fllower is still going strong, and another bud has appeared too. 🙂
