Spring is springing!
๐
And what a wait it was this year; we had even more snow this week, and I thought Spring had forgotten us completely. But fortunately the snow has all but gone, revealing some spring flowers that are finally getting the warm sunshine they need to open up and show their colourful petals.
This little blue vase was put to good use once again, for a small but bright and beautiful spring posy: Crocus, Snowdrops, Hepatica (blue and white), and a purple Primula.
The white Hepatica (H. nobilis ‘White Forest’) has pretty pink stamens, and is the only special variety that has survived in my garden. The Primulas were flowering before our last lot of snow – in complete shade!
Both the flowers and warm sunshine have made me smile. The gardening season should be well and truly open by Easter weekend!
I am joining Cathy at Rambling in the Garden for her addictive weekly meme – and with spring arriving in many parts of the northern hemisphere, why not join her too? Bringing flowers indoors – in all seasons – brings such pleasure!
Fabulous to hear the snow is gone and the flowers are blooming…a cheerful spring vase to warm my day…our snow is still here so no blooms yet, but it is slowly melting…maybe in a couple of weeks.
And once it has melted, everything will suddenly burst from the ground! It is milder now, but the ground is still too cold for gardening. Soon!
Cathy is wonderful that the snow has gone and the sun shines. I love your vase is cute. The flowers are very beautiful. The yellow Crocus shines like the sun: it’s beautiful. The Snowdrops I love. Hepaticas are divine. And the purple Primula is beautiful. It is a magnificent vase full of Spring. The photo of the vase on a stone and in the background a group of yellow Crocuses reflecting the sun is wonderful, I love it. Here in Spain today is sunny but tomorrow again it rains again and most likely from Sunday we have another cold wave with snow. But I will cheer with your vase. Take care. Greetings from Margarita.
Hello Margarita. Winter has been long this year. I hope spring reaches you soon too!
I also Cathy hope that the Spring, its temperatures arrive soon. But that’s what there is. Your flowers comfort me, do not stop teaching them if you have please. Greetings from Margarita.
Joy, joy, happy, happy are what I feel when I look at the pictures of the flowers in the that vase.
๐ I am so glad I can bring a smile to your face Laurie! Winter seems to get longer every year, but at last there are signs of life in the ground!
Thanks for sharing this happy arrangement & passing on the smiles! Both are perfect for our gray and rainy day today.
๐ You’re welcome! We are back to rain today, but things are finally looking up here. ๐
Beautiful little collection! Love your hepatica.
I scan the ground every year for this Hepatica, worried it hasn’t made it, but it is pretty settled now and seems just as happy here as its native cousin. ๐
Ah, the sweet flowers of spring, such joy!
๐ Joy indeed!
It’s a sweet composition to welcome spring’s arrival, Cathy. I love the crocus. I hope your winter set-back is brief.
Thanks Kris. It is wet but milder now, so the wet stuff is rain as opposed to snow!
Oh what perfect crocus these are, Cathy – the yellow ones always seeem to suffer bird damage so I have never bothered with them. You must be so thrilled with your little spring treasures after all the weather setbacks in recent weeks ๐
A couple of the yellow ones did look as though they had been pecked, but it could just have been snow damage as some of them tried to open before the last lot of snow. They are tough little flowers though! ๐
Yeeeaaaaaaay! Glad to hear that the snow has retreated Cathy. A delightful little vase. Most envious of those pristine crocuses. Mine usually croak as soon as they open – either battered by wind or rain or more wintery precipitation ๐ฆ I like the hepatica.
The crocuses didn’t last long this year what with the weather being so mean to us. The hepatica is a treasure. ๐
What a sweet collection of spring in your vase. I am so happy for you that you finally have some spring color. Happy IAVOM.
Thank you Lisa! It seems like winter went on for ever this year!
Oh, those are so pretty Cathy in the sunny light. Glad spring came out from hiding.
Thanks Susie. Spring is more welcome then ever this year!
It has been a long wait for spring this year Cathy; your vase and view of your garden in the background make me smile too. Enjoy!
๐ Thanks Christina. It should be warm enough to get out and do some gardening by Easter Monday…. Hooray!
How pretty and hopeful. I hope your cold has gone and spring arrives this weekend! I don’t trust the weather at all this year.
It has been very temperamental, but I think we might be getting some warm days next week if the forecast is right! Yippee!
I love the bright colors of the Crocuses! We’ve got a few that have begun to bloom.
You are catching us up then! ๐
Lovely, living in the land of nearly no spring bulbs – I love seeing yours.Happy Easter.
๐ I hope to share more bulbs in the next few weeks!
Looking forward to it.

That is so pretty! Only a few blooms here, so spring is happening later than it did last year. But this year is more “normal” for us. Eventually, everything will “pop” at once. I realized today how many garden chores are waiting for me–when it gets warm, all the tasks must happen at once!
Yes, I often get a bit panicky when it is finally warm enough to work outside again! But I am sure we will get through our lists of jobs as usual!
What a perfect little arrangement, Cathy. The colors are so vibrant they almost don’t look real. I’m so glad Easter will be ushering in “full time” spring. It’s about time. ๐
Yes, the harsh sunshine makes those colours pop againstvthe grey and brown background… the bees found these crocuses the moment they opened and were literally queueing up and falling over each other to go in each one!
And the make me smile too, Cathy, such a sunny, charming posy. To see the sun shine is pure bliss. Trying hard to establish Hepatica here as I adore them but it’s not easy. Most of my crocuses have disappeared – I wonder if mice eat the corms? In any case the yellow flowers are much beloved by blackbirds and torn to pieces! Fate of the gardener ๐
This white hepatica is the only cultivated one I have had success with. It is in a spot where it doesn’t get disturbed the rest of the year. The blue ones love our chalky hillsides here, so I assume they all like similar conditions. The mice in my garden are too fat on tulip bulbs to even try the crocus! LOL!
had the blue ones in my Swiss garden under the trees on a dry slope, so pretty, will keep trying ๐
That’s such a pretty collection of spring blooms. I love that Hepatica. Its pink stamens are so distinct. I saw some at the Rare plant fair…..but not knowing anything about its likes and dislikes, made notes to look into them. Your lovely arrangement is spurring me on.
The native blue ones grow all around us on the chalky slopes of our valley. They like very well-drained soil, and hate being disturbed. I hope you find some that you can get established. They are such special flowers!
I love your cheerful little spring posy. And you picked your precious hepaticas! They are terribly expensive here.
Well, I can enjoy the hepaticas more if I pick them and put them on the table! I shall go and pick a bunch of the blue ones from the woods for the weekend. ๐ I would love to have a pink one, but after two attempts I have given up and settled for blue and white. ๐
The white Hepatica โWhite Forestโ is a beauty, one to look out for.
Yes, it seems to be a robust one too. I have lost a few others but this and the blue one always come back. ๐
The vibrancy and colors of these flowers what is your secret! ๐ Do you have any recommendations for garden soils?
No secrets. Very poor soil, well-drained and frozen all winter then baked in summer! ๐
Absolutely gorgeous! It’s snowing here again tonight and this post totally cheers me up! ๐
Oh, poor you Sheryl. Your winter does drag on a bit. I’ll try and post more colour for you soon! ๐
what a lovely posy!
Thanks! ๐
