(Not) In a Vase on Monday: Advent

I may not have any flowers left in my garden for sharing with Cathy (Rambling in the Garden) for her Monday meme, but a walk in the woods provided me with material for this Advent arrangement instead of a vase.

A piece of bark, probably spruce, was found on the ground, along with some spruce and pine twigs which must have come down in the last storm. There were also plenty of spruce and pine cones and I took some lichen too. I added a few walnuts given to us by friends, and a chestnut and acorn or two gathered earlier in the autumn. At the front is a piece of the silver fir from our old garden – I love using it in Advent decorations as it lasts so well.

Wishing you all a peaceful Advent with lots of cosy candlelight.

  1. What a lovely rustic look, Cathy – that is a gorgeous piece of bark which is definitely worth looking out for on winter walks! I like the addition of nuts too, with their tactile brown shells. Thanks for sharing

    • Our woods are mostly fir trees here, and there is plenty of bark from fallen trees as well as felled ones, but finding the perfect piece needed some concentration! πŸ™‚

  2. Your arrangement is so beautiful and all Nature Cathy, I love it. The silver fir is beautiful like the bark, the pineapples, the branches, the acorns ….. Everything is a natural beauty. And the candle in red is divine. Your center is wonderful. Happy Advent Cathy. Have a wonderful week. Greetings from Margarita.

  3. Lovely and simple, just what I like πŸ™‚ Wish we’d see more of this…when I look at those horrible plastic Santas climbing chimneys and those blinking fairy lights that inspire a rather unholy wish in me to murder the person who invented them, haha! Never mind, I wish you and your loved ones a happy advent season. xx

  4. OMG how simply perfect is this display for Christmas I may have to push my Poinsettias aside and take another walk when our rain stops xo I have Huge Pinecones from NC that line my stairs leading up to my bedroom I really much get a bit more creative in my space lol

    Merry Christmas Cathy

      • Thanks Cathy I have two enormous Poinsettias 3 Balsam Wreaths and moms old ceramic tree that’s it for my decorating πŸ™‚ I will bake a ham and make roasted veggies sit in a Quaker Church 1/2 mile from my house through the woods and enjoy an hour of silence amidst the candlelight ❀ praying for all those who are less fortunate than me.

    • It was so cold at the start of the week and my garden was frozen, but now it is much milder. The hedgerows and woods offer so much even in winter. πŸ™‚ Will go and take a look at your vase now.
