Over the past few weeks I have been taking liberties and showcasing my lovely potted Amaryllis instead of cutting flowers for a vase, just so that I can join in the weekly meme that Cathy hosts at Rambling in the Garden.
I planted four Amaryllis/Hippeastrum bulbs in early December and all of them have been fabulous, blooming nicely one after the other and not simultaneously as is often the case. And each has produced two spikes, some still to flower. This week this lovely small pale red one is flowering. It has remained as straight as a rod so far, and with the relatively small flowers it will hopefully remain so.
Hippeastrum ‘Charisma’
So over the past few weeks I have shown you Red Pearl, Alfresco, Apple Blossom and now Charisma. I think Alfresco was my favourite. π
Have a great week!
My, you do have a great hand with Amaryllis! They all look stunning, Cathy. Well done!
Thank you Dina! π
You are welcome! π
These amaryllis make me smile. Happy in a vase on Monday.
Me too Lisa. Thanks!
Very pretty, Happy Monday.
Thank you! π
How obliging of them to organise the flowering. Every year I admire the blooms on here but then never plant any.
I usually write myself notes on my calendar to get Amaryllis bulbs, but nearly forgot them last autumn! They only take a minute to pot up too, so it really is worth the investment of a few pounds! π
Normally, I am drawn to red, but that pink and white one is a beauty.
I like the red ones at Christmas time, but now the days are getting longer I love the fresher colours too. π
They’re all gorgeous, Cathy. I’m making a mental note to stock up on Hippeastrum bulbs next fall, while also holding onto the slim hope that, with all the rain we’ve gotten this winter, maybe the Hippeastrums I planted out in the garden will do me the favor of naturalizing – and blooming – after all this year.
I’ll keep my fingers crossed for your Hippeastrums Kris. The idea of them naturalizing is amazing for me and I imagine it must be some sight to see them all blooming in the ground!
It is hard to pick a favorite – I think all four are lovely. Hippeastrum are so easy to grow and just keep on giving, some with three bloom stalks! What is not to love? π
Precisely. Wouldn’t want a winter without them! π
Lovely! I’ve grown Amaryllis in the past–I think I need to nurture a few next winter to get me through the season. Yours are beautiful shapes and colors.
Oh yes, do plant a couple for indoor flowers in the dark of winter. They are so uplifting!
They are all beautiful. I love their confidence.
Yes, these flowers have character!
Do you buy fresh ones each year? When I see yours I always wish Iβd bought some.
Yes, I only had one reflower for me once, so I buy fresh ones and don’t take the risk of getting just leaves come up! Definitely worth the small investment each autumn. (I got them from Peter Nyssen this year).
Thatβs good to know. They give so much pleasure they are worth it.
I usually buy one from PN each other but also bought several from Aldi as they were so cheap and as long as you buy them when they are fresh in the store they are healthy, otherwise they start shooting in the boxes. I kept mine chilled in the fridge and staggered the planting. Lidl usually do them too. For colour at this time of year they are so dependable, aren’t they? Thanks for sharing all yours, Cathy ps my Alfresco is head and shoulders above all the rest but still as straight as a ramrod!
Oh yes, I wouldn’t want to go without them in winter! Alfresco was the only one so far to start leaning… and I nearly cut it, but then just propped it up instead! The second bud is still to open. π
Cathy your Amaryllis “charisma” I love has a lovely red color. You have a good hand with the amaryllis, you have been teaching us every Monday a beautiful collection. Have a very good week. Take care. Greetings from Margarita. π
Thanks Margarita. Have a good week too!
What gorgeous blooms, Cathy! I never think ahead to planting the bulbs in December and then we get into the doldrums of winter and I would so enjoy those gorgeous flowers! You were definitely rewarded with beauty!
I think winter would be rather dull here without an amaryllis or two. They have done so well this year and have kept me in flowers for several weeks already! And hopefully for a few more weeks to come – our temperatures are very slowly rising, but still no sign of spring bulbs outdoors.
Yup, Alfresco.
(I just happen to prefer white.)
π Thinking about it, I rather like white flowers indoors in winter, as they reflect the light from outside so well.
Charisma indeed!
π It is living up to its name. Second bud now opening too.
A most apt name Cathy. All of your amararyllis must have given you much pleasure in these cold months. I’ve just been enjoying a nameless white beauty from Lidl but it has gone over much too quickly π¦ It was on the kitchen windowsill which does get a fair bit of sun. Where do you keep your bulbs?
My white one also didn’t last as long as I would have liked but Apple Blossom just goes on and on. π I have moved mine around a bit, but they have been mostly on a windowsill facing north-east. Lots of light but no sun.
