Monday is vase day, and I am pleased to join Cathy at Rambling in the Garden once again. But my vase today is actually six little vases all joined together!
This ingenious ‘vase’, given to me by a friend some years ago, means I can show off lots of different Spring flowers at once. 😉
First, a Muscari and an unlabelled Pulmonaria brought with me from the old garden.
Then a Puschkinnia… love those stripes!
And finally Glory of the Snow, Bellis and a double primula.
Last week I mentioned that the little jug I used had some eggs on the base inside, but I had not thought to photograph them before filling the jug with flowers. So here’s a photo!
Hope you are all enjoying warmer temperatures than here… We had an amazing 21°C one day last week but are down to just single digits again tomorrow with snow flurries already! I have been preparing my new bed today though, so will be glad of a few days rest! 😉 Here’s a preview….
It’s about 24 metres long and about 1.5 metres wide, forming a boundary for the flower garden. Planting should start as soon as this cold spell is over. 😃
Happy gardening!
That vase is cleverly designed and I expect you’ve used it in exactly the manner intended by its maker, Cathy. I’ve heard April described as the cruelest month because conditions can be so changeable in many places. My part of the world is already channeling summer conditions, at least in terms of our daytime temperatures.
Hi Kris. Well, it was white when I got up this morning but thank goodness it is no longer settling and the sun keeps breaking through the snow clouds! It often snows a bit at Easter, so I shouldn’t have been surprised!
I love the vase and especially the Pushkinia (hope that is right) Your beds are wonderful, what kind of lawn do you have? mine would creep all over in a few days during the summer.
Our lawn is just scrubby grass and weeds… mostly weeds actually! And they do get into the beds I’m afraid. I might put some kind of barrier around the beds one day, when they have reached the ideal size… I have been extending some a bit this spring! 😉
my lawn is the same but creepy in both ways!
I remember this charming vase from some years ago. It’s such a clever design and perfect for showing off small blooms.
Cathy, I am amazed at how large your property is. My goodness you have an amazing space. I’m sorry to hear about the temperature, but at the same time, since you need a break, perhaps it’s made to order. I can’t wait to see what comes up in your garden.
Yes, we have no end of space here Alys. It is a haven for us. 🙂🌲🌷🌳
I’m so happy for you, Cathy.
I like how the vase let’s you showcase individual flowers, a good way to enjoy each one’s beauty. I think the double primrose looks like a mini-rose. 🙂
So what is going into the new bed?
The new bed will of course have lots of grasses in it! 😜. But also some Cornus and a few other shrubs. It won’t look much this year until everything starts growing, but I am still excited about planting it up!
An artist always loves a fresh canvas! 🙂
Your sweet arrangement really interests me, Cathy. I’ve never heard of Puschkinnia before, and absolutely love the stripes! Your garden is coming along beautifully, and how wonderful to have so much available garden space. I’ll enjoy watching your progress! 🙂
It is wonderful having the garden space to let my imagination run riot! I think this will be the last of the beds though as I must remember I am the only gardener in this house! 😉
Cathy, this vase of “spring” is just the best! You’ve showcased lovely little blooms expertly. The Puschkinnia particularly caught my eye–love it. I’m excited to watch your garden grow and I love the way you’ve designed the beds. Hope the weather realizes soon that you’re ready to garden!
Hi Susie. Yes, I hope so too. It has snowed on and off all day but thankfully has barely settled. ☃️😜
Double primula reminds me of so-called twin prime numbers, like 11 and 13 or 29 and 31.
😃 Well, you are a mathematician Steve, so I can understand that!
Such a very unique vase that is perfect for showcasing your blooms. Down here on the Gulf Coast our temperatures are jumping from the 40f’s to the 80f’s in a matter of days. One day is long pants and jacket and next shorts. Summer is near and I am looking forward to seeing how your beds do.
So you are having a stop and go Spring too! I was out gardening in a T shirt too last week, but yesterday I had 4 layers and a winter hat on! LOL!
Just saw your snow photo. We did not have that!
Thank goodness! You had enough cold weather for this winter!
I love the vase, just perfect for the dining table to enjoy your little spring treasures close up. We had warm weather up to 21 degrees last Wednesday but it’s bitterly cold today.
Same here Chloris. It has been snowing on and off today but luckily hardly any has settled. Icy wind too!
Oh, this is really special, and a great way to highlight all the graceful, colorful little spring flowers. We are warm here, too (26C, and the average temp for this date is about 12C). It has been a mild spring, overall, with fire risks high in my part of the U.S. The same flowers you have are blooming here now, too. Very pretty!
It seems that everyone I hear from has unusual weather at the moment. Must be April! 😉 Thanks Beth.
What a source that bed will provide, and I look forward to watching it develop. Love your vase and the way it enables each bloom to be special.
Thanks Noelle. The vase is ideal for little spring flowers. 😃
This one conforms to both ‘In A Vase On Monday’ as well as ‘Six On Saturday’.
That’s true. I haven’t actually participated in Six on Saturday… yet!
It is addictive, like ‘in a vase on Monday’.
That is a lovely way to display the full prettiness of those little spring beauties. Your garden development is great to watch. Will you link any bits together with arches and other hard landscape features do you think?
Not sure about arches as it is very windy up on our hill at times! But I do want somewhere I can sit, so we will see how the bed develops first. 😃
I love the vase, you can put a lot of small spring flowers. All the flowers I love, but especially muscari, double primula and Bellis, the Puschkinnia did not know it and I love stripes, it is divine. It’s a wonderful, lovely spring arrangement, I love it. The new empty bed is for you to plant everything you want in it and unleash your creativity. You have a huge garden to do whatever you want in it. The forced rest due to the coming cold wave will do you good. Bundle up tight and stay warm. Take care. Very affectionate greetings from Margarita 🌷😘😀🤗🌷
Thanks Margarita. I have been indoors catching up on housework until the weather warms up! I can’t wait to get started on the planting, but I must be patient! 😉 🌷❄️🌷
How exciting to begin planting again! And a new garden is always a treat – so many choices, what are you going to plant? 🙂
Lots of grasses, a few shrubs and some fiery colours for summer. 😃
Such a pretty ensemble of spring jewels Cathy. Pulmonarias are one of my favourite spring flowers. I like the speckled eggs nestling in the bottom of your jug.
Thanks Anna. I love Pulmonarias too and have several in the new garden now. 😃
Love the cover shot! Yes we have had amazing summer like heat in recent days now for some rain and more normal type temps. for New England in early spring.
The sky is bright red today as the sunrises at the shore so maybe we will get some weather .
I spread 5 out of my 8 yards of screened loam over an area moles, voles and chipmunks tore up. Took the bird food away before the bears come through hoping the rodents will leave and find another place to den.
Your place is looking wonderful tractors are a good thing 🙂
I don’t know where we would be without the tractor now! I certainly wouldn’t have that new flower bed as digging that over by hand would be murderous! LOL!
I know your right 🙂 I filled my raised beds so quickly with compost and supersoil I felt guilty lol
