‘Amazing Parrot’ is a rather bright and flashy tulip. As you can see here it is not shy!
It looked lovely in pots last spring….
But as I needed the pots in the summer, I dried the bulbs and wrapped them in a brown paper bag to save in my cellar. Only to forget about them! So late November I hurriedly planted them in my Butterfly Bed without much thought involved.
Aagh!
Well, they look awful in the Butterfly Bed, which is mostly pink and blue with some pastelly colours. And what’s more, the stems are very short this year. Off with their heads!
I had no qualms for once about cutting a big handful of tulips and added some bright blue Muscari growing in abundance nearby as a nice companion. So my vase may seem a bit brash today. 😎 But I don’t care because it is good to rebel now and again! 🤪
And I love having a colourful arrangement in the house. 😃

Love the smell of newly mown lawn – I’m going to try holding off on doing mine as long as possible to give the violets a chance to bloom and set seed. 🙂 Looking a bit untidy out there, ha!

No, not brash at all – it just makes a statement! These tulips are lovely – I dd try to find some parrot tulips like this last year and can’t remember what I ended up with, but they are not doing anything yet. I will make a note of the name. Well done for saving them successfully for another year. I love the dish with the lid that you have the flowers in – great for short stems
I planted up tulip pots again this year but all my Peter Nyssen tulips have either been very small and weedy or haven’t showed up. 🙃 Yes, the dish is great for short stems. 😃
The tulip “Amazin Parrot” is fabulous, charming, cheerful and divine, I love it. It looks great with the blue Muscari in that useful vase with its lid with holes, I love it. Fancy! I’m very impressed that you just got those tulips to bloom again, Cathy. And having pretty flowers show up in the “wrong” spot always does alleviate any reservations about cutting them. A mail order supplier sent me tulips by mistake late last year (instead of the more climate-appropriate bulbs I’d ordered) and, even though I kept them in the refrigerator for a full 3 months before planting them, it doesn’t look at all likely that they’ve going to bloom for me, which is disappointing if not really unexpected.
A shame you can’t grow tulips Kris, but you can grow so many other things and for such long seasons! The tulips give me colour before my perennials start blooming. 😃

Very designer looking something Zandra Rhodes or Christian Lacroix would choose. I saw some amazing Parrot Tulips at the Yeo Valley Gardens last week, I had seen them in the bulb catalogues, but seeing them in real life was awsome. I don’t use that work in the normal course but I was bowled over, as I am by your arrangement.
Oh thank you Noelle. What a nice compliment. 😃 I would love to visit a spring garden for inspiration, but we don’t have gardens like in England that are open to the public. I do love parrot tulips and must look out for some in perhaps a more pastelly shade!

I did wonder if it was too late to plant them, but a friend once said that if it seems too late it is better to let them decay in the ground than in a bag in the cellar! LOL!
Always give it a try. I am trying Liatris from seed, though I think they should have been planted six months ago. Fingers crossed. You got lucky with those tulips.

In the right place I like orange too. I will try and replant them to another flower bed!
Wow, grape hyacinth or muscari seems to be popular this year. When I ask others about it, they mention that it was always around, but they never bothered to get many pictures of it.
It is slowly taking over patches of my garden and some will be replanted elsewhere and some might end up on the compost heap!
Yes, it can do that. I tried for years to get rid of it from one garden, and then learned to like it, . . . after it was gone. That was years ago. However, a bulb or so survived, and grew into a small colony that I just found last summer. I dug some of it up and brought it here.
The bright blue Muscari make a stunning color combination with the orange tulips. I love it!
Those orange tulips needed a bold partner and the Muscari is taking over the garden so needed picking…. 😉

That is such a flamboyant tulip and it looks great in the vase with the muscari. How lucky that it didn’t fit into the border. I’m inclined to chop off the heads of my last tulips in the pots so that I can plant them up with summer flowers. Definitely a rebel with a cause Cathy and gorgeous combined with the blue muscari. I don’t know if you had a very dry start to spring like we did but that can apparently reduce the length of tulip stems. Hope that you are enjoying the weekend.
Ah yes, the dry spring could have been the cause, although others are taller… I shall never understand tulips entirely!
Our language displays different colors, too. Vase is unusual in having three common pronunciations. Some pronounce it to rhyme with base, others with ways, and still others with Oz. And the vas that in anatomy means ‘a vessel or duct’ and is etymologically the same word is pronounced to rhyme with gas.
I pronounce it the British way, rhyming with Mars. 😃 When participating in this meme I do often think about the fact that others joining in from around the world are pronouncing it in a different way. I have never heard it pronounced to rhyme with Oz.

I have already lifted the rest of those tulips and will label the bag they get stored in. I think they are better suited to my Sunshine Bed!
