In a Vase on Monday: September Sparkle

September is proving to be a fabulous month so far, with temperatures in the lower 20s, sunshine and blue skies, and a light breeze every now and then. I think October is still my favourite month, with all the autumn colour and golden light, but September comes a very close second. The light is softer and the humidity is low. The house martins are still here at least for the first week or two, and there are still so many flowers blooming.

My vase today celebrates that special light and the soft sparkle of flowers, foliage and grasses.

Cosmos, Scabiosa, Miscanthus, Asters and lots more. I am being lazy with names today. πŸ˜‰Β As always, a big thank you to Cathy at Rambling in the Garden who hosts this wonderful meme. πŸ€—

Have a lovely week, and happy gardening!

  1. Cathy, wowβ€” this is such a happy arrangement and the profusion of flowers! I’m living my Cosmos love through other gardeners like you, because this year my Cosmos did not fare well due to bugs and then a storm uprooted them all. So I am so loving this vase. I hope you have a wonderful week!

  2. Your color combination is fresh and soothing, Cathy. I’m particularly taken with the fluffy Cosmos. I must try to grow one like that from seed next year.

    • This cosmos was amazing Kris. It has flowered all through the rainshowers of July and August and I have deadheaded and trimmed them now and they are still covered in buds. πŸ˜ƒ

  3. Very pretty, it somehow reminds me of a sailing boat about to leave…maybe just wishful thinking, I don’t know, sometimes I think I’m about to go mad. In any case it’s gorgeous❣️

    • Thank you Annette! πŸ’• I find these colours so optimistic and along with our glorious sunhine it has lifted my spirits. πŸ˜ƒ We just watched your latest video of your beautiful garden. Your roses are gorgeous! You showed us around so nicely and it was just like being there for a visit. Lovely to hear your voice too. πŸ€—

  4. You really did aptly call it, Cathy. It does sparkle indeed. It’s a very cheerful combination and almost looks like a spring bouquet. To have such lovely flowers this late in the season is really special!

    • It is easier to keep the flowers deadheaded and the flower beds tidy now the damp and humidity has gone. I hope to spend most of this month outdoors, πŸ˜‰

  5. This is very pretty Cathy! I am increasingly appreciating September, it’s a wonderful month with the lovely soft light and the bountiful harvests. I think May is still my favourite though. Enjoy what will hopefully be an Indian summer!

    • They call an Indian summer ‘Altweibersommer’ here, which refers to the spiders weaving their webs. But it has a second meaning…. ‘old women’s summer’! I am an old woman then, as I love it. LOL!

  6. Cathy, your flower bowl is magnificent. So many wonderful and divine flowers with that special light that illuminates them: I love it. Cosmos are adorable I love them. Cathy I am very sorry not to have written in so long but I feel very bad, I have not picked up the computer. I hope you are in good health and in good spirits. Take care. With my best wishes have a very good week. Very affectionate greetings from Margarita πŸ˜˜πŸ™πŸŒΌ
