Today is the second day of my Week of Flowers, where I am inviting you all to join in with me and post a bright and cheerful photo of a flower or two each day for a whole week.
So many have already contributed on Day One with beautiful reminders of what has flowered this year and what will be in the coming Spring. So if you haven’t joined in yet, please do, and leave a comment below to share. Let’s cheer up this dark time of year!
My garden has brought me so much pleasure this year, and I am sharing some of the sunshine colours today.
I especially loved my sunflowers this year, which benefitted from warm and damp weather as opposed to the hot and dry springs and summers we have had in recent years. Here is a link to more photos of them in The ‘Edge.
Wishing you all a sunny day!
Gorgeous yellows!
Thanks Aletta! 😃☀️

Yellow brings cheer to the garden, beautiful. https://afrenchgarden.wordpress.com/2021/12/02/a-week-of-flowers-day-2/ my post for today. Amelia
I agree, Amelia. Perhaps even more so in Spring. 😀
Cathy, the Itoh peony is aptly named–it is a shining light.
Thanks Susie. I love that peony and have waited so long for it to finally get established! 😃
I missed Day 1! I love yellow flowers – that peony is beautiful!
Thanks Chris. That peony took several years to flower and has been pampered, but I think it is finally established now! Great that you are joining in! 😃
Sunshine in a blog post! I have sunflowers in bud currently (a first) and was wondering if they repeat bloom if you cut them? Here is mine https://theshrubqueen.com/2021/12/02/a-week-in-flowers-day-two/
It is rather odd for me to think of sunflowers flowering in time for Christmas. 😃 I don’t think mine would rebloom if I cut them in this climate, but it would be interesting to hear if they do in yours. Some of mine did have side branches though, which went on and on producing new flowers for weeks.
This far south things are odd, I was pruning suckers off tomato plants today and ate the first fresh corn of the season yesterday. I will leave the sunflowers to see what happens. Thanks for the input.

Lovely brightness today – that yellow peony is unusual. Another unusual plant from me today!
Yes, I love that peony after cosseting it for several years! Thanks for linking in again Jude.
I’m enjoying my afternoon cuppa feeling as if I am outside sitting in the sunshine Cathy 😀 What a gorgeous peony. What is the flower in your top photo please? I can read name captions for the others. It’s been a sunny day here albeit on the chilly side. I hope that you have had sunshine too. My post for today is here : https://greentapestry.blogspot.com/2021/12/a-week-of-flowers-2021-day-2.html
Thank you Anna. Sadly only a few minutes of sunshine and then drizzle and sleet all afternoon! But the various contributions have kept me busy admiring other people’s flowers. 😃 The top flower is the same Heliopsis as below – ‘Sommersonne’ (summer sunshine) which is a perfect name for it! ☀️🌻☀️
My comment on your post isn’t getting through Anna, so here it is! Sorry! :
An orchard full of daffodils is just so romantic. It reminds me of my Grandmother’s home… they had a farm and when they retired and got rid of the chicken house in the orchard it was planted up with daffodils which spread. Those figures in your photo are not real I hope! Wild boar with babies can be very aggressive…. 😉
We’re socked in by fog this morning and unable to see more than a few feet in front of us so your sunshine post is most welcome, Cathy! I’m exceedingly envious of the Itoh peony, which I’ve yet to have any success in growing. I’ve joined in today and will try to do so at least once later in the week. Here’s my first look back at springtime: https://krispgarden.blogspot.com/2021/12/a-week-of-flowers-2021-day-two.html
Hi Kris. Fog can be so depressing, can’t it. We get a lot of it in winter but thenit is especially nice when the sun comes through! The peony took a few years to flower, but was gorgeous this summer. I’ll be right over to visit your post. Thanks Kris!
Lovely and cheerful… just what we need! Thanks for hosting, Cathy!
Thanks Eliza. Your support is so appreciated! 🤗
This is great fun, Cathy. Thank you for hosting this uplifting series.

Amazing how this colour instantly lifts the mood! Love your first photo with the bee. Ahh, summer!
😃 Yes, dreaming of warm sunshine on this snowy cold day!
Thank you for the “sunny day”! It’s cloudy here today, so I especially appreciate it currently. 🙂
Then it is having the effect it should Beth! So glad it cheered up your day a little. It is grey and dark here too.
