As I write it is still the last day of the year and we had some lovely warm sunshine today: 13°C!
So to ring out the old year here are a few pictures of my leisurely wander around the garden with Anouk this morning.
The blue sky and sunshine was a real treat…
This is the corner Anouk likes to inspect first every morning, as the hares come through the fence there…
Still a few rose hips left in the hedge…
And some morning mist across the meadow beyond our fence…
Anouk, checking for mice…
The buzzards often sit on the perches first thing to warm their wings in the sun… we put up several of these to encourage the birds of prey to help keep the mice population down.
The hellebores are in bud!
Can she smell Spring? (No, probably deer or hares!)
Wishing you all the very best for the new gardening year. Health, happiness and lots of flowers!
Happy New Year!

She is an old dog, but still curious.
What a beautiful day! The sun here has been absent for days and days, maybe on Monday we might get a glimpse, I hope. Happy 2022, Cathy. Here’s for an excellent gardening year!
We had two days of sunshine, but are back to grey and rain! Hope you have some January sunshine soon Eliza!
Thanks, Cathy, I do, too. The sun broke through for a few minutes this afternoon and it felt so BRIGHT! Then the clouds closed in again, sigh. Maybe tomorrow??
We had about 1 whole minute of sunshine this morning. 🤪
Similar here, the sun is now setting and it looks like it might be clearing in the west. Let’s hope tomorrow will be the day we see the sun for more than a minute!
Fingers crossed! 😃
Our daytime high temperature was virtually the same today, Cathy – but I can’t say I thought it was warm 😉 In my defense, there was a chilly wind blowing…I enjoyed my visit tailing Anouk. Best wishes for a wonderful new year!
Thanks Kris. We had no wind and sunshine, so the 13°C felt even warmer. Back to grey skies now though.
What beautiful photos, Cathy. The photo of the mist is utterly enchanting! And I do hope Anouk was able to sense an early spring. 🙂 Wishing you a very happy and healthy 2022, Cathy.
Thanks Debra! Anouk has a good nose, but it was probably the deer she could smell…. they sleep in the tall grass we left standing just outside the fence… 😃
It was plus 3 here today…not quite the same but really pleasant as well. Happy New Year Cathy!!!
We are still waiting for winter to get going here. 😉
What a beautiful sunny blue sky day..Happy New Year.
It was lovely to get some sunshine!
Happy New Year!
Thanks Sandra. And you!
I like the idea of encouraging raptors. Happy New Year! It is so nice to have blog friends from around the world.
Thank you. Yes, good to know gardeners from far off places… the world is smaller than we think! 😉
Happy New Year Cathy! What beautiful shots of your garden. It seems so spacious. I hope you get lots of pleasure from the garden in the year to come
Thank you Judith. The sun has gone again and rain is back. It is very soggy out there…. 💦🌧💧
Happy New Year! We are enjoying mild weather and sunshine to welcome in the new year. What a treat after the cold spell. Amelia
We had some nice sunshine for a couple of days, but are back to grey, rain and fog again now!
You captured the gorgeous sunshine so well. We have been foggy with bouts of rain but the cold they say is headed our way. Happy New Year Cathy to you and yours xo
It is foggy and wet here again now too. Winter is taking its time this year!
It sure is.
All the best to you in 2022!
Thanks Susie. And you!
You certainly live in a beautiful place and Anouk seems to appreciate it too :D. Oh, you have hellebores in flower already, how wonderful! Mine are still sleeping which is probably just as well as it’ll get colder towards the end of the week. The owls are very active during the night…love is in the air, I’m glad they’re untouched by our madness ;). Best wishes to you too, stay brave, sane and cheerful xx
That hellebore already flowering was a new one I bought in flower in November, so cheating really! But there are buds on the others. 😃 Really mild again today. Must be lovely watching the owls. Keep smiling Annette! 🤗
Happy New Year
Thanks! And to you!
Happy New Year, Cathy !
Thanks. And you!
Happy New Year! Beautiful scenes with the angle of the sun and the lovely setting. All the best for the year ahead!
Thanks Beth! And to you a happy new year!
On the infrequent occasions when I come across the name Anouk, I think of the actress Anouk Aimée and the film “Un homme et une femme.” I see that she’s still alive and will be 90 in a few months.
90 already? She was a beautiful person and I am glad my Anouk acquired such a pretty name. 😃 Apparently the name means ‘little bear’ in Scandinavia.
That derivation seems dubious. One website says Anouk “is a French and Dutch diminutive of Anna or Anne.” Wikipedia sides with that: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anouk.
