I just saw Eliza’s post about World Bee Day, so felt compelled to post something before this day goes by unnoticed. Like Eliza, I ask all gardeners please not to use chemicals to get rid of weeds or pests. There is almost always a kinder alternative that will not harm pollinators.
This is my Peony ‘Claire de lune’ which opened yesterday, with a bee in her ruffles. 😃
That’s a lovely peony, and nice to see a bee on it.
We have had a good spring for bees so far – relatively warm and stable weather, although today is thundery. 😃
A flower worthy of a bee, whether a queen or not.
Peony season is beginning! 😃
A glorious photo. Our garden is full of bees even though winter is drawing close.
That’s good to hear Jane! They like the asters I grow in our autumns.
A lovely peony with friend, Cathy. Both are beautiful to behold!
Thanks Eliza! 😃
A beautiful peony and a beautiful bee. We have plenty of them in our garden as my husband is a bee-keeper. He does his best to keep the bee population from declining but the general situation is pretty alarming.
As far as I can judge in my garden there are still plenty of wild bees and bumble bees in our area. The nearest beekeeper hives are about a kilometre away, so don’t know if they visit us too.
I can’t really grow peonies well where I live, Cathy, so I will just admire yours! And I DO!
Enjoy! 😃 (Shame you can’t smell them 😉).
