Inspiration – Awards and stuff

I apologise for the delay on a post about all these wonderful awards that have been bestowed upon me!

I am so grateful for these blogging trophies, and appreciate every single one…

As I also appreciate every single reader; all my (over 200) followers, all those who leave a comment or press the Like button, and everyone who simply stops by for a look now and then.

Now the awards…

First of all, thank you to for sending me the Inspiring Blog Award! Me? Inspiring? Well, all I can say is, I have been inspired by all your amazing blogs!

Melody’s photos of wonderful flowers, and her words and poetry on life and nature are very inspiring. Thanks Melody!

Then Robin at  and Tj at sent me an award called the Very Inspiring Award. Thank you Robin! Thank you Tj!

Robin’s blog is certainly very inspiring, with wonderful photos of her time spent in Europe, recipes, and her “Quotes from the masters” challenge every week.

Tj also shows us beautiful photos – her garden in southern Arizona, with its hot and dry climate is the inspiration for her informative and interesting posts on the plants and wildlife there.

Next, Carine at  nominated me for three (!) awards all in one go! The Lovely Blog, On Fire, and Addictive Blog Awards!

Thank you Carine!

Carine has a versatile and lively blog – a platform displaying her love for America and New York (as an immigrant from Paris!), as well as good books and beautifully photographed food. A very lovely blog Carine!

Dan at sent me the Illuminating Blogger Award a couple of weeks ago. Thanks Dan!

Dan is an aspiring writer; studying creative writing. Dan’s blog is his outlet for thought-provoking (and fun!) poetry, and a wealth of  illuminating ideas and thoughts on life and happiness.

Finally, gave me the Beautiful Blogger Award AND The  Reader Appreciation Award! Thank you Nutsfortreasure!

Good Things

The good things in life right now, in no particular order, are:

My garden, strawberries, poppies, dogs, favourite people, peonies, sunshine, Karel Capek’s book “The Gardener’s Year”, and blogging!

I am so lucky to have such accommodating plants in my rockery that flower every year without fail, attracting wonderful wildlife and giving bursts of colour just when needed.

And I’m so lucky to be nominated for the Beautiful Blogger Award by Gina from Professions for PEACE !

Beautiful Blogger Award

Thanks Gina!

Gina’s blog offers inspiring thoughts on making life more fulfilling, living each moment to the full… and she’s a gardener too!

All I need to do now is:

~Thank the person who nominated me and link back to them

~Nominate 7, 6, or fewer blogs that I enjoy

~Post a comment on each of these nominees’ blogs with a link to my page for the details

~Paste the Award image somewhere on my blog, if I wish

~And, continue blogging!

Since I don’t follow so many blogs I will just nominate three outstanding ones that I have followed now for some time, and stress that accepting this award is purely a matter of choice – there is absolutely no obligation! (I know some bloggers are put off by the rules.)

  • One of the most beautiful blogs I follow is Strawberryindigo. Her prose and photography are wonderful and her inner beauty shines through.
  • The first blog I ever followed was The Iris and the Lily. Bonnie’s garden is in many ways like mine, although we live miles apart! And her photography is absolutely beautiful, examining plants and nature from a different angle.
  • My other favourite is The Teacup Chronicles. Danielle’s blog is beautiful and magical. Her photos, recipes and her style of writing calm and inspire me.

Thank you all three of you for your beautiful posts!

I hope some of you will take a few moments to look at their blogs, and share their love of nature.

Have a lovely day everyone!

Genuine Blogger Award

Jymiely from Littlefurrow gave me this wonderful award last week. Thank you so much Jymiely!

Jymiely, from the Philippines, loves writing and if you take a look at her blog you will see that she has a very special way of expressing herself. Keep writing Jymiely!

I decided to find out where the Genuine Blogger Award originated, as there are no rules attached… If you’d like to read about it, have a look here.

I would, however, like to pass this award on to someone. I have chosen a blogger in Finland who I discovered after she visited my blog only recently:

A Leaf in Springtime

Sharon’s nature photography is fantastic and she captures the light so perfectly in each of her photos. Her writing is also exquisite, wise and moving. Above all it is such a positive blogsite, full of goodness and beauty…

And it is “Genuine“.

Thus, the Genuine Blogger Award!

I love your blog Sharon, and look forward to many new and inspiring posts!

And thank you once again to Jymiely!

Sunshine and Liebster Blog Awards

I’m feeling very happy, yet humble.

There are so many fantastic blogs out there, I have a long way to go!

Still, my dear blogging friends sent me over some special gifts this Easter:

From Elaine at Rainyleaf  I received The Sunshine Award…

Thank you Elaine!

Elaine is a qualified horticulturist, and has an extensive blog full of plant profiles, lovely photos, book reviews and lots of useful tips for the gardening year:

Then Robin Jean Marie at Bringingeuropehome gave me the Liebster Blog Award…

Thanks Robin Jean Marie!

Robin has lived in Europe and to remind her of that time she now posts about European traditions, food and so on. It’s such a fun and cheerful site!

Here are the rules for the Liebster Blog Award:

  • Thank your Liebster Blog presenter on your blog.
  • Link back to your awarder’s site.
  • Copy and paste the award onto your blog
  • Nominate 3-5 bloggers for the award.
  • Inform them by leaving a comment on their blog.

I hope nobody minds me nominating just 3 bloggers for each award… with the gardening season beginning I have less time to view many new sites at the moment!

The Sunshine nominees:

Gardenpath (Wildlife and nature close up – fantastic photos!)

My Little Rhode Island Corner (A really lovely garden and nature blog – with recipes too!)

Mountainmae (Observations on life and nature, dotted with delightful poetry!)

The Liebster Blog nominees:

Herbstbaum (A friendly German/English nature blog with lovely pictures!)

CrumpetKitchen (In French and English, a cosy collection of recipes and anecdotes – love it!)

Prairiesummers (Delicious recipes in German and English, with lovely photos too!)

Take a look at these blogs and enjoy an array of talent!

Thanks everyone!

My German friend Linde has always been delighted at my use of the word “lovely“.

“It’s so English!” she would say.

Is it? Perhaps.

Sadly, after 18 years of life in another country, speaking another language, I no longer use this adjective for expressing pleasure as often as I should like.

Yet I obviously THINK it; last week I had a lovely surprise: a nomination for the “One Lovely Blog Award”… and my first thought was “How lovely!”

I love this new world of words and pictures I have discovered in the last few months, and the support we all give each other is energizing and inspiring.

A very big THANK YOU to Strawberry Indigo at

for nominating me!

Strawberry Indigo is a wonderful writer and writes about so many different things; I particularly like her social commentary page, and her lovely posts on life in general, and plants of course … and the “fresh quotes” are great too!

The rules for this award are simple:

  • Accept the award, post it on your blog together with the name of the person who has granted the award and his or her blog link.
  •  Pass the award to other newly discovered blogs.
  •  Remember to contact the bloggers to let them know they have been chosen for this award.

I am passing on this award to three blogs that I have only recently discovered:

A Strawberry Patch

Wonderful photos and posts on nature and gardening, as well as some lovely poetry.

Green Tapestry

Anna writes about gardening and plants, with the added extras of  the occasional seasonal poem and lovely photos.

Lakeside Lane

Diane combines beautiful art photography with atmospheric and uplifting quotes. Simply wonderful. (Or should I say “lovely“!)

Have a look at all these sites, and enjoy some top-class pictures and prose!

The Versatile Blogger Award

Surprisingly, I have been nominated for an award… the Versatile Blogger Award. Wow, an Award! For me!

I have to admit that I didn’t really know what this award is…. thank goodness for Google 🙂 . After looking at some previous winners’ remarks, it appears to be a wonderful way of supporting fellow bloggers. This I wholeheartedly embrace.

All I have to do apparently is follow these rules:

  • Thank the award-giver and link back to them in your post.

Thank You!

Ma. Novie Godmalin of nominated me.

Ma. Novie is from the Philippines and her blog describes some of her travels, things she does, and places she goes. I wish her success with her blog in the future too!

  •  Share 7 things about yourself.

1. I have never been in a garden centre without buying anything.

2. I have a terrible memory for most things… except the names of plants.

3. I have climbed Mount Fuji.

4. I have not climbed Mt Everest.

5. I like lavender ice cream and rosemary shortbread.

6. I prefer a cold and frosty day with clear blue skies to the heat of July.

7. My favourite spices are cardamom and vanilla.

  • Pass this award along to 15 recently discovered blogs you enjoy reading.

Here we go then. All of these are excellent blogs and these are just some of the people who have inspired and motivated me over the past few weeks. (Some of them are old-established blogs, and probably already have this award!) Please take a look at their sites too! I have listed them in random order:

The Iris and the Lily

The Teacup Chronicles
