80 Today!

Yes, today my Dad is celebrating his 80th birthday!

Happy Birthday Dad!

Here are a few photos for him taken three summers ago on one of our trips into the German Alps.

    • Hi Mike – Berchtesgaden is just a couple of miles from the lake… the whole area is called “Berchtesgadener Land”. The little town directly on the lake is called Schönau and is a wonderful place to stay!

      • Thanks for the update, Cathy. And, happy birthday to your dad. I hope he enjoyed a great day. I wrote the comment and then realize that you were writing about Berchtesgaden only after clicking that button. I wish WP allowed comments to be edited after sending them Anyway, you took some great photos and hope you share more! Thanks so much!

    • Thanks Susie! I was lucky to see the gentian, as it was August and most had gone over in the heat. It was the first time I’d seen one like that. 😀

    • Thank you very much Eunice! My Dad was so chuffed to read all the good wishes my dear blogging friends have sent. 😀
It is a beautiful part of the world down there… not far from Salzburg which is just over the border in Austria.

    • Thanks Pauline. Yes, I’ve been in Germany for 20 years now, and we’ve managed a trip to the mountains almost every year until recently. It is simply wonderful and this area is one of our favourite spots!

    • Thank you for the birthday wishes. You can take a boat trip across the lake Königssee in very quiet electric-powered boats – no motors are allowed as it’s all national park. It froze completely a few winters ago and it looked like the whole world was there walking across it!

    • It certainly was a great day Anna, thank you! We all sat in my Mum’s beautiful garden in the warm sunshine after a feast. My Dad loves the mountains, so it seemed an appropriate opportunity to show a bit of my adopted country! 😀

  1. Happy Birthday to your Dad, Cathy! Exceedingly beautiful photos of this unique region of Bavaria!
Did you know that I was born in the “Berchtesgadener Land”? I lived there till I was 12 years old.

    • Thanks Christina! Yes, I was able to make a flying visit and we had such a wonderful day. The sun came out and we could enjoy my Mum’s pretty garden – so green and lush! 😀

    • Thank you Uta! We’ve been there many times over the past 20 years – our other favourite place is Garmisch/Mittenwald with the fabulous mountain passes. 😀

  2. What a breathtaking landscape, Cathy! My goodness, but it’s gorgeous. I hope your dad is doing well and had a wonderful birthday. My dad will have his 82nd birthday on the 1st of September. He’s had a rough go for the last couple of years, so it’s a major family celebration! 🙂

    • Thanks Debra – my father is going strong and we all had a wonderful day together. Hope you all have a great family get-together for your Dad too! 😀

    • Thanks Donna – I really hope you get the chance to visit the Alps one day. I find the German side much more attractive than any other! (Am I biased?!)
