Yes, today my Dad is celebrating his 80th birthday!
Happy Birthday Dad!
Here are a few photos for him taken three summers ago on one of our trips into the German Alps.

If you are ever in the south of Germany you must visit this wonderful National Park!
Wow! Fantastic photos. Another terrific area is Berchtesgaden. It looks quite similar to Koenigsee, it seems.
Hi Mike – Berchtesgaden is just a couple of miles from the lake… the whole area is called “Berchtesgadener Land”. The little town directly on the lake is called Schönau and is a wonderful place to stay!
Thanks for the update, Cathy. And, happy birthday to your dad. I hope he enjoyed a great day. I wrote the comment and then realize that you were writing about Berchtesgaden only after clicking that button. I wish WP allowed comments to be edited after sending them Anyway, you took some great photos and hope you share more! Thanks so much!
😉 I’m sure I’ll find an excuse to show more of Bavaria one day! Thanks for commenting Mike! 😀
Happy Birthday to your Dad! Great photos–it must have been a very special trip. I do like that Gentiana purpurea.
Thanks Susie! I was lucky to see the gentian, as it was August and most had gone over in the heat. It was the first time I’d seen one like that. 😀
Happy Birthday to your Dad Cathy from over here in New Hampshire
Wonderful captures too!
Thank you very much Eunice! My Dad was so chuffed to read all the good wishes my dear blogging friends have sent. 😀
It is a beautiful part of the world down there… not far from Salzburg which is just over the border in Austria.
Looks like a beautiful part of our world and I am glad he loved all the wishes 🙂
Reblogged this on My Blog snuppy.
Happy Birthday, Cathy’s dad! Your pictures are breathtaking.
Thanks J9! When the sky is blue those lakes look so gorgeous I want to jump in, but they are still very cold even in summer!
Say Happy Birthday to your Dad for me! Cathy, those photos are picture postcard perfect…wow!
Thank you for the birthday wishes Nancy. I managed to spend the day with him and it was very special… 😀
Happy Birthday to Cathy’s Dad. What a wonderful trip you made, the scenery is stunning!
Thanks Pauline. Yes, I’ve been in Germany for 20 years now, and we’ve managed a trip to the mountains almost every year until recently. It is simply wonderful and this area is one of our favourite spots!
Such beautiful landscapes! Many happy returns Cathy’s Dad. What a lovely trip.
Thank you for the birthday wishes. You can take a boat trip across the lake Königssee in very quiet electric-powered boats – no motors are allowed as it’s all national park. It froze completely a few winters ago and it looked like the whole world was there walking across it!
What a great idea not only quiet for appreciation but also clean for the lake.
Hope that your Dad’s special day is filled with fun Cathy. You have chosen some beautiful photos to mark such an occasion.
It certainly was a great day Anna, thank you! We all sat in my Mum’s beautiful garden in the warm sunshine after a feast. My Dad loves the mountains, so it seemed an appropriate opportunity to show a bit of my adopted country! 😀
Happy Birthday to your Dad, Cathy! Exceedingly beautiful photos of this unique region of Bavaria!
Did you know that I was born in the “Berchtesgadener Land”? I lived there till I was 12 years old.
Thank you Elisabeth! I was in England for the day (two nights) so I could be with him! 😀 Yes – how lucky you were to grow up in such a pretty region.
How wonderful for your father and you to spend this very special day together!
Perhaps the unknown flowers could be any special kind of “Scabiose”???
I thought of that too, because of the flowers/seed heads, but the leaves are more like corn flowers….
Congratulations and a very happy birthday to your dad, I hope you able to spend it with him.
Thanks Christina! Yes, I was able to make a flying visit and we had such a wonderful day. The sun came out and we could enjoy my Mum’s pretty garden – so green and lush! 😀
An extra nice present for him, this dedicated birthday post 🙂
Hi Annette – 80 just has to be celebrated, and he was happy to recall the holidays we’ve had in the mountains. 😀
Happy Birthday to your dad, Cathy. This is a good idea to share these pictures.
Thank you Uta! We’ve been there many times over the past 20 years – our other favourite place is Garmisch/Mittenwald with the fabulous mountain passes. 😀
Gorgeous photos! Happy belated birthday to your Dad! I’ve been away and have been missing your blog. Good to catch up 🙂
Thanks Anna! It was a great day for us all!
Phenomenal photos, Cathy! It’s great that your father shares your love for the great outdoors, too.
Thank you Gwynnem. We all love the mountains as well as the seaside, but then who wouldn’t love that wonderful scenery!
What a breathtaking landscape, Cathy! My goodness, but it’s gorgeous. I hope your dad is doing well and had a wonderful birthday. My dad will have his 82nd birthday on the 1st of September. He’s had a rough go for the last couple of years, so it’s a major family celebration! 🙂
Thanks Debra – my father is going strong and we all had a wonderful day together. Hope you all have a great family get-together for your Dad too! 😀
Late birthday wishes for your dad! The pictures are amazing, truly a beautiful place to return to each year.
Happy belated wishes to your Dad!!!! What an incredible journey you had…one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen…love to visit it in person.
Thanks Donna – I really hope you get the chance to visit the Alps one day. I find the German side much more attractive than any other! (Am I biased?!)
