Where did last week go?
The same way as the leaves on the Maple at the bottom of the garden I suspect. With a gust of wind and heavy rainshower a few days ago the tree was suddenly half naked. But the positive side is that it opens up the view beyond the garden, and the leaves on the ground seem to reflect light on a grey day like today.
Here’s an extra picture taken in the sun just two days ago.
Do you feel autumn is rushing along too fast?
In my feeling, autumn is coming slowly. It is wet and cold, but the colours of the trees and plants are still the same as in summer.
Our trees are turning lovely yellows and golds, but there is still a lot of green too.
It does feel like autumn is going to be a fast one this year. We are expecting a cold front, which for us, is fairly early. Your maple tree is such a beautiful accent. I expect the changes to your garden will be very noticeable in the next few weeks!
I looked back at October/November photos from last year… 😦 Can’t bear to think of those changes, just let them come!
Such a beautiful maple, do you know which one it is? It makes a beautiful focal point.
Don’t know the name I’m afraid, as it was here long before we arrived. Acer palmatum is the closest I have got – there are so many kinds!
Autumn is slower than usual for us this year…yesterday there was a bit of frost in the low places, but the basil is still growing. I’m good for that!
Wow, basil in October! My last is wilting even indoors! You must have green fingers Marie. 😉
It certainly is! I couldn’t believe that it was GBBD today; mid month already – help!
I hope we get some more sunshine before November arrives – notorious for fog here. 😦
Such a nice maple. It seems like autumn started early but hasn’t progressed much here. The sun is back out after four or five days of rain and gray.
The autumn colours are great at the moment here, but a bit more sun would be nice! 😉
Still waiting for that golden October, mind you! Dull here too but very mild and it’s supposed to get very warm again – so we might still be in for some colourful days. Your Acer definitely takes the attention away from the grey skies, Cathy. PS: I ordered one today 😉
Hey, glad to hear that Annette! Yes, let’s hope for some bright October days. 😀
Did the red of that shrub really become so much deeper in just those two days or was that a trick of the light?
Well, it IS changing daily, but I think it’s the light in the photo… it was a really yellowish golden light which was explained about an hour later with a thunderstorm and torrential rain!
It’s amazing what a bit of sunshine does for the view! Still looking very green, but I guess that will change as autumn rushes by…
I see the changes so clearly this year. All the rain we’ve been having is making it green, but the leaf colour is fantastic all around us too.
The rain and wind certainly seem to have taken their toll here during the last week or so Cathy. Still some lovely splashes of colour for you to enjoy 🙂
The asters have been battered by the rain, but still manage to look attractive. It seems our weather is very similar again at the moment!
There’s still a lot of colour in your garden. Even though the sunshine is missing these days. Hopefully it won’t snow soon!
Oh I hope not Simone! There’s a lot to do before it snows and after it came so early last year I don’t want to get caught out again – some serious gardening at the weekend! 😀
Now that’s color! The maple looks great in the sun, but the glow in overcast weather is my favorite.
We sometimes get beautiful light before a storm – and the maple really does brighten up the whole garden. I probably say the same every year, but this year that maple has been outstanding!
Our autumn has been strange.. slow at first but now it’s just begun getting cold.. then back again to warm sunny days. We can’t figure out this weather for the life of us, lol! I love your garden.. so much color and beauty as far as the eye can see.. xx
Thank you Barbara! That’s nice to have some warmth late in the year when you know winter’s just round the corner. It’s been so damp and chilly here this month, but gardening weather is forecast for the weekend! 😀
Glorious autumn colour, and what a fabulous view you have. Not much sign of Autumn here yet, which is weird, although a lot of the leaves are being blown off the trees before they have a chance to turn.
We sometimes have years like that here. I think the hot summer has had an influence on the intense colours this year.
I’m impressed that you can see the changes on a daily basis. That’s incredible. I love the second photo and those beautiful clouds! 🙂
😀 We’ve had a lot of darker clouds this week, but the weekend is looking brighter! Have a lovely weekend Debra!
Same as here lovely color Have a great weekend!
You too Eunice! Hope the sun shines. 😉
gorgeous out perfect night for a ball game GO SOX!!!!
Time in general seems to be going by very quickly for me – this year, the seasons have been a blur! Maybe it’s a sign I need a vacation…. 😉
The last two weeks were a blur for me certainly! I could start panicking about getting the garden put to bed for winter (we had snow at the end of October last year) and time running away from me, but then I see so much still flowering and think “what does it matter?” Hope you get a chance to enjoy some autumn days Sheryl, and maybe have a day or two off? 😉
still loving your foliage…my trees are bare but the bushes still have lots of gorgeous colorful leaves.
The trees are bare here too now, but it is still definitely “golden” out there!
