In a Vase on Monday: Tulips 🌷

A thick layer of yellow pollen was covering everything yesterday, as the conifers in the woods all around us are flowering. There were literally clouds of it every time the wind stirred, but fortunately an overnight shower had settled it enough for me to pick a few tulips this morning for today’s vase.

In the centre this lovely orange one is flowering in The ‘Edge. (It may be Ballerina….?)

The pink one on the right is a new one – Mariette – and the paler pink one on the left was planted out from a pot a couple of years ago and the name is long forgotten. They have come back well, despite the excavation work carried out by mice in the winter!

This pale yellow one, also planted out from pots last year, has a slight orange tinge to the edges which makes me think of  ice cream with raspberry sauce…. 😆 Some Pulsatilla seedheads, chocolatey Geranium phaeum and a lime green Euphorbia polychroma accompany it.

Somehow the day got away from me, so I am late posting my vase. But it was a good day with a visit to a garden centre and then some gardening later on. However, the highlight of the day was the discovery of vegan Babybel cheese. Swoon! 🤣

Thanks to Cathy at Rambling in the Garden for hosting ‘In a Vase on Monday’.

Happy gardening everyone!

  1. Oh yes, I forget about the pollen. Redwoods do the same, but relative to their massive size, are not as prolific with pollen as pines are. Ponderosa pines are not quite as massive, and are not as fully foliated so low down, but generate more pollen.

  2. Very pretty shades of pink tulips, Cathy. I’m surprised to see G. phaeum blooming already, mine is just sprouting leaves. Sounds like you are fired up with garden work, spring sets us free! 🙂

    • I am hoping our pollen will have gone by the time the weather clears up… it is wet at the moment which at least means the pollen is not flying around!

    • Mariette was from Farmer Gracy’s. Luckily they have warehouses in Holland and can send to the EU countries, unlike other UK seed and bulb suppliers!

  3. That is such a great way of showing off your tulips, Cathy – these lily flowered ones are so elegant – and what an intriguing edge to your ice cream tulip! ps glad to hear you managed a nursery visit!

    • The garden centre was much better stocked this time, and already had lots of summer container plants in the greenhouses… much too early as it is down to freezing point most nights at the moment!

  4. The tulips look gorgeous, the way you have arranged them in the butterfly vase. I especially love the first photo, with the tiny vase beside it – the combination makes a lovely photo. 🙂

Enjoy your cheese. I regard any new cheese “find” – vegan or otherwise – as a happy event. ❤

    • Thanks Joanne. The cheese didn’t last long (only five in a pack!) and I will have to make another trip to the shop that sells it really soon! 💕

  5. Oh, those are beautiful! And the containers are wonderful, too. The Tulips are beginning to bloom here, as well. Lovely time of year. ❤

  6. Oh, my, that yellow one with the delicate edging is pure beauty! The tree pollen is just getting started here. The worst for us is the quaking aspens — last year, the white fluff covered the hillside and looked like snow! ACHOO!

And once again, I love your vase!

    • Thanks Kimberley! It has been raining since Monday so thankfully the pollen has settled. It has brought my garden work to a standstill though! (We can’t have everything I suppose!) 😜
