I may not have any flowers left in my garden for sharing with Cathy (Rambling in the Garden) for her Monday meme, but a walk in the woods provided me with material for this Advent arrangement instead of a vase.
A piece of bark, probably spruce, was found on the ground, along with some spruce and pine twigs which must have come down in the last storm. There were also plenty of spruce and pine cones and I took some lichen too. I added a few walnuts given to us by friends, and a chestnut and acorn or two gathered earlier in the autumn. At the front is a piece of the silver fir from our old garden – I love using it in Advent decorations as it lasts so well.
Wishing you all a peaceful Advent with lots of cosy candlelight.

Lovely!
Thanks Sandra!
The silver fir is lovely, I do like all these natural elements.
Yes, I was just about to say so. We have only Douglas fir here. I grew all of the North American Firs for a while, but never saw them at maturity.
Douglas fir is lovely too – smells so good and almost Christmassy when you rub the needles. Mmmm.
For us, they are the standard Christmas tree.
Yes, I love natural arrangements at Christmas too. 🙂
Your lovely wreath has reminded me of when my boys were younger and we decorated pinecones with glitter at Christmas. I just realized that I miss pinecones! None to be found here. Happy Advent!
That’s a shame. We have millions this year – more than I have ever seen!
A perfect arrangement for the season. Happy Advent.
Thank you Lisa. And to you too.
What a lovely advent arrangement!
Thanks Laurie!
A very sweet, woodsy arrangement to celebrate the coming holiday. Season’s best to you, Cathy!
Thank you Eliza. 🙂
What a lovely rustic look, Cathy – that is a gorgeous piece of bark which is definitely worth looking out for on winter walks! I like the addition of nuts too, with their tactile brown shells. Thanks for sharing
Our woods are mostly fir trees here, and there is plenty of bark from fallen trees as well as felled ones, but finding the perfect piece needed some concentration! 🙂
It reminds me of our northern woods.
🙂 We have lots of evergreens in our woods as well as oak and beech.
Here in the Gulf Coast area, our pines have their branches at the top and the needles are about 4 inches long. But they make great mulch when they brown and fall.
A beautiful way to display seasonal finds and treasures. I’ve got two new kittens who move at the speed of light so no candles for now, sadly.
Oh, but fun with the kittens. I suppose a tree will be out of the question too! 😉
Your arrangement is so beautiful and all Nature Cathy, I love it. The silver fir is beautiful like the bark, the pineapples, the branches, the acorns ….. Everything is a natural beauty. And the candle in red is divine. Your center is wonderful. Happy Advent Cathy. Have a wonderful week. Greetings from Margarita.
Thank you Margarita. I love natural arrangemnets but do sometimes sneak in a bit of glitter, this time with the sparkly candle. 😉
Very pretty. Happy Advent right back at you!
Thanks Peter!
This is such a beautiful simple reminder of what the festive season is really about – enjoy your Advent candle Cathy! xx
Thanks Julie!
Cathy this is beautiful and I love the use of bark especially.
I was lucky to find a nice piece of bark that was flat enough for the candle to stand on!
I like the nuts and pine cones.
We have got another basket of walnuts given to us and I seem to have spent hours shelling them, but they taste really good this year. 🙂
I love it, Cathy! I’d have picked up that lovely piece of bark too. Happy Advent!
Thanks Kris. I was so pleased to find the fallen pine twig too, as the branches are far too high for me to cut a piece!
I love pinecones and brought some with me when I moved to Florida. Very seasonal and well done.
I would miss forests and woodland so much if I lived in a warmer climate. The fir trees are very much a part of the scenery everywhere you look here.
I miss the forests when near the beach, and the beach when near the forests. It is a dilemma.
And we are sooooo very far from a beach – would be nice to have the best of both worlds. 🙃 At least we have the lovely alps and mountain lakes within driving distance though. 🙂
Yes, I love it all – really. Today I drove to West Palm Beach down the coast and really enjoyed the landscape, glimpses of water..would love the Alps and Firs, too.
😃🌲🐗
That third symbol is supposed to be a wild boar but came out wrong!
Such a compelling arrangement Cathy, beautiful. Happy Advent.
Thanks Susie! 🙂
I love your natural Advent arrangement using wild bits from your woods.
Thanks Chloris. 🙂
Oh that’s simply quite beautiful Cathy and so natural. Your woods are a real treasure trove.
Thank you Anna. 🙂
Lovely and simple, just what I like 🙂 Wish we’d see more of this…when I look at those horrible plastic Santas climbing chimneys and those blinking fairy lights that inspire a rather unholy wish in me to murder the person who invented them, haha! Never mind, I wish you and your loved ones a happy advent season. xx
A bit of bling is nice at Christmas, but the natural look is more my thing too! 🙂
OMG how simply perfect is this display for Christmas I may have to push my Poinsettias aside and take another walk when our rain stops xo I have Huge Pinecones from NC that line my stairs leading up to my bedroom I really much get a bit more creative in my space lol
Merry Christmas Cathy
HUGS
We have had rain too Eunice – looks like Christmas will be grey rather than white! Have fun decorating! 🙂 Warm Christmas hugs to you!
Thanks Cathy I have two enormous Poinsettias 3 Balsam Wreaths and moms old ceramic tree that’s it for my decorating 🙂 I will bake a ham and make roasted veggies sit in a Quaker Church 1/2 mile from my house through the woods and enjoy an hour of silence amidst the candlelight ❤ praying for all those who are less fortunate than me.
Happy Christmas!
I just seen your ‘vase’ post for this week and I too couldn’t produce anything from the garden, but did spot some promising twigs along the hedgerow, so they featured in my contribution on Monday! Happy to have discovered words and herbs today! Happy Christmas. Amanda https://therunningwave.blogspot.com/2018/12/a-vase-on-monday-looking-ahead.html
It was so cold at the start of the week and my garden was frozen, but now it is much milder. The hedgerows and woods offer so much even in winter. 🙂 Will go and take a look at your vase now.
