‘A week of Flowers’ is my way of brightening up this dark and dismal time of year in the northern hemisphere. The sight of a cheerful bloom never fails to bring a smile, and I will therefore be sharing some of the most colourful flowery photos of this year’s garden for a whole week. Why not join me? Just post one photo (or more!) a day of flowers from your garden for this coming week through to December 7th and leave a link to your post in the comments below. That way everyone can find it and enjoy the warmth and colour as well!
Let the show begin!
Peonies are one of my favourite flowers, and this Itoh Peony ‘Shining Light’ is a beauty.
Peony ‘Cuckoo’s Nest’ is the cuckoo in the Moon Bed, which otherwise contains only blue and cream/white flowers. My sense of humour. 😉
And this one is, I think, Sarah Bernhardt – it certainly smells wonderful.
These are P. ‘Dancing Butterflies’. Hard to believe on a December day that the Oval Bed looked like this in June!
Have a flowery day, and hope you will drop by again tomorrow!
💕
All beautiful, I’m posting my entry in a couple of hours. Will pop back with the live link later.
Thanks Rosie!

They are stunning, Cathy. I particularly love the first one. I’ll look out for it for next year.
Here’s my post https://betweenthelinesbookblog.com/2023/12/01/a-week-of-flowers-2023-day-one-nature/
The yellow one took a few years to flower for me but was worth the wait! 😃
Definitely worth the wait. It’s gorgeous!
Oh! These are impressive. Is it normal for them to bloom so late? Do they continue until frost?
Oh no, these were flowering in June – my garden is under several inches of snow today and we have freezing temperatures! This series is looking back at flowers in my garden this year, and I will be posting pictures of spring, summer and autumn flowers all of this coming week to brighten up the winter. 😉
Oh, of course. I really do not know what the season for peony is, since we do not grow them here. It would not surprise me to see them bloom until frost, but I sort of think of them as summer flowers.
I love peonies! Thank you for the beautiful photographs.
Thank you!
This is such a great idea, Cathy. 🙏 I’ll get break open the archives this evening to return the karma. Thank you.

What glorious peonies.
Lovely aren’t they!
And thanks for joining in!
Peonies are so beautiful, but another plant I can’t grow here. I’m happy to enjoy yours in the winter.
Happy to share! 😃

I do like peonies, but suspect they wouldn’t like my exposed garden, so I shall simply admire the beauty of yours. I’m cheating again this year by not using flowers from my own garden, but I am taking you to an exceptional garden here in the south west of Cornwall. I hope that is acceptable.
Absolutely Jude. Any flowers will do really. Our landscape is completely white today as it is snowing like mad… hard to tell where the sky meets the ground! LOL!
Urgh! You can keep the snow, though it does look beautiful when new and pristine. It did actually snow in Cornwall yesterday, not 10 miles from me, but I only got a bit of sleet. It’s very unusual for it to snow here other than on the moors.

So nice to revisit your garden in June and virtually sniff the peonies!

Thanks Eliza! 😃
I tried peonies a few years ago. Must try harder. 😜
Here’s a Sweet William for you to savour.
Thank you for joining in! 😃
I stumbled upon it this morning, Cathy. It will bring joy & appreciation for what was and what will be again next summer.
Precisely! 😃👍
Oh your peonies are striking Cathy and certainly sing of summer which seems a hazy memory at the moment! Thanks for hosting again. My flower of the day is here :

It certainly does seem a long time ago, doesn’t it! Thanks for joining in Anna!

I love peonies too (actually I can’t believe that there is anyone who doesn’t!). The first photo of Itoh Peony ‘Shining Light’ is magic! Such a soft yellow!! 🙂 It doesn’t fade with shades of pink though does it???
Here is my first cheerful flower: https://wp.me/pM8Y1-8ZP
It doesn’t really change colour outdoors, except the speckles of orange perhaps get a bit deeper. It lasts so well in a vase too. 😃 Glad you are joining in! 😃
Thanks for hosting Cathy. This is such a lovely idea!

Joining you for the first time today, Cathy. What fun! Love your collection of peonies. I think I have a few I can show off tomorrow. Here’s my Day #1…
Thanks Cindie. Would be great to see your peonies too. I would love to plant lots more of them but would need to make a whole new bed to accomodate them! LOL!
I adore peonies in general but “Shining Light’ stole my breath away, Cathy. I still have one Itoh peony in my garden, planted over 5 years ago. It routinely develops foliage but it’s yet to bloom. It probably never will but but I’ve stubbornly held on to it.
Well, there is hope yet Kris… I waited several years for this one to flower for me. I think it was five years in fact! 😃
Oh what a great idea. I’m a little swamped this week, but I’ll definitely check in on your posts. Who isn’t cheered by flower photos. Thanks!
Thanks Beth. Enjoy!
I love peonies too, but they have diminished over the years, rather than increasing in their size. I hate to try and unearth them to replant as they tend to break so easily. Bonus – the deer don’t like them! Here is a link to my flower of the day here in the Pacific Northwest: https://flauntyourstylesite.wordpress.com/2023/12/01/fotd-december-1-2023/
A shame they don’t do well for you. I have been fortunate with them right from the start, so our ground and climate must suit them. Lovely you are joining in!

Lovely peonies 💞🌸 We can’t grow the here either, but what a treat to see yours!
Thanks Sarah! 😃

These are lovely and artful blooms!
Thanks! I love them too. 😃
How I love to see photos of peonies! They look so much like roses, yet my climate is too hot to grow them. Thank you for the treat! 🙂
My Day 1 contribution is here ~ https://homelifeonlineblog.com/2023/12/01/a-week-of-flowers-day-1/
The peonies smell lovely too, like roses but I think even better! On a warm still day the whole garden smells good!
Sounds heavenly. ❤

Not sure I was aware of your peonies before now, Cathy – these are such striking examples
I have a couple of others too, and am currently considering how I can integrate another one or two!
