Today is a little cloudy and showery, but it is always interesting for me to look at my rockery in detail in different light conditions. So here is my Tuesday view taken at around 11 a.m. this morning.
The lavender is flowering beautifully attracting lots of bees, and the Linaria and roses are adding to the summery feeling. Left of the red rose you can see the grey foliage of the Russian Sage, which will start flowering next month. And bottom left the orange day lilies are looking good among the Aruncus.
Hope you can join me again with your views this week!

The lavender is a good strong colour accent in your rockery now. The sun is shining but rain is on its way later today. https://digwithdorris.wordpress.com
Hi Dorris! We have had a nother week of very hot weather with showers, and now I hear a thunderstorm rolling in. What a summer! My Thalictrum has now opened too. Isn’t Elin a beauty. 🙂
This summer is weird so far. Rain and sunshine, wind too. Everything is growing but not nice enough to sit out and really enjoy it. Elin is a show stopper, which ones do you grow?
I only grow that one sort of Thalictrum -Elin. I have got two and one grows really tall, while the other is only about a metre high. I did a post on it years ago, just photos really. https://wordsandherbs.com/2012/07/20/delicate-beauty/
It’s a bit difficult to get near enough to it to photograph now as the planting is so dense where it stands!
hi Cathy, I think your view does look different. My lavender was alive with bees but as you can’t see it in the view I couldn’t show you. My Perovskia is in full flower creating a haze of blue (but again not in the view, although I may add some to this bed now that it isn’t filling the formal beds. Here’s my link: https://myhesperidesgarden.wordpress.com/2016/06/28/tuesday-view-28th-june-2016/
I am looking forward to the Perovskia flowering. It still needs a week or two I think. We have also had a lot of bees on the Lavender, and slowly a few butterflies turning up now as well.
Everything looking lush and green, Cathy, suppose you’ve had a fair amount of rain too this spring. Your vase is very pretty too. Wishing you splendid summer days in your little paradise 🙂
And the same to you Annette. Yes, it has been very wet the last two months, which is quite unusual but my garden has flourished. 🙂
It looks perfectly summery, so much color! I have the linaria blooming this year from seed I sowed last season. Do you find it to have a long bloom season? Assuming mine gets some water some day I’m hoping it will just keep going through the summer.
I’m throwing my hat in the ring and will try and join in this year. Here’s my view! https://katob427.wordpress.com/2016/06/28/tuesday-view-the-tropics-6-28-16/
Hi Frank. Yes, the Linaria flowers all summer and I occasionally chop down bits that have got too tall and straggly. I sowed this one from seed sent me from the UK and it also gave me two colours.
Cathy, the color of lavender flowering through the rockery is lovely. I like the jolt added by the red hue of the rose. You have a lot of nice variation in textures too that make this an interesting view. My view is not much changed, but for rain today. https://pbmgarden.wordpress.com/2016/06/21/the-tuesday-view-21st-june-2016/
We have rain again today Susie. Such a wet year, but the garden seems to be coping with it even if some of the wildlife has had problems… hardly any butterflies so far.
Lovely view, looks like a painting, as if someone has carefully taken care of every detail and of every single drop of colour. My view has changed a little bit: http://timpingradina.blogspot.ro/2016/06/the-tuesday-view-21st-june-2016.html
Wow, what a lovely comment Anca! Thank you. 🙂 Have a great weekend!

It’s so pretty, Cathy! The lavender is lovely reaching out from the rocks–perhaps I should put some in my rock garden. I do have one great big healthy bush of it near the house, and the bees do indeed love it! I’m always amazed by how much we have in common in our gardens! Which are the Linaria? I’m familiar with the yellow and white kind known here as “Butter and Eggs”, which grows as a roadside wildflower/weed. My gardens are finally starting to gain some summer color:https://cosmosandcleome.wordpress.com/2016/06/28/tuesdays-views/
I can never have enough lavender Kimberley. And as you say, the bees feel the same way! The common Linaria is a short yellow plant here too, but my Linaria in the rockery is a very tall purple and pink. It is on the left of the big rock, pretty much in the centre, above the lavender. If you click on the picture it enlarges it. Originally it was ‘Linaria Canon J. Went’ which is pink, but some purple was mixed in the seed and has taken over!
I like all the blues and reds. The Russian Sage goes really well with the roses.
Yes, the reds and purples are slowly gaining strength. 🙂
I’m usually so focused on the flowers that I don’t take as much notice of the beautiful green. In this view I notice how many shades of green there really are! Gorgeous!
It’s due to all the rain we have had Debra! We have been forecast more thunderstorms for today, but then it should be dry for a few days. I hope the mosquitoes dwindle then!
Your rockery is a beautiful tapestry, Cathy 🙂 It is interesting that, different as our climates are, our Tuesday views both contain lavender and perovskia, though my lavender is no longer in bloom and I don’t mention the perovskia as it’s barely in view in my photo! I’m trying to join with the theme this week…: https://smallsunnygarden.blogspot.com/2016/06/tuesday-view.html
Thank you Amy! My lavender is in full bloom now and there is a very slight blue tinge to the tips of the perovskia now too. 🙂
Trying a second time as it appears my first comment was eaten… Here is my link, at any rate: https://smallsunnygarden.blogspot.com/2016/06/tuesday-view.html
a lovely tapestry of summer flowers.
Thank you Ann. I haven’t thought of it as a tapestry before, but I like the image. 🙂
Beautiful view. It is like a lovely colourful tapestry.
Thank you Beauty whizz. 🙂
I love the range of colors in this bed, Cathy. So beautiful! I’ve finally got a post up to join you. A day late and a dollar short, but I hope I will be more timely next week. One can only hope! 😉 http://wp.me/p3O3z4-197
June is the best month, although the Russian Sage is always an eyeycatcher when it starts flowering in July as well. Have a lovely weekend Eliza!
Thank you – same to you.
Very pretty Cathy. It is hard work to make spaces pretty but so worth it!
Hi Eunice, lovely to hear from you! Yes, it is work, but enjoyable work. Have a great summer! 🙂
You as well!
[J] Artless perfection. I am however intrigued about the rocks, as they look like water-worn or limestone! How long have they been there?
Yes, limestone. I assume the rocks in the rockery were excavated when this house was built as we are in a valley carved out of this rock!
It’s breathtaking!
Aww, thanks Alys! 🙂
Can I ask you something about lavender? Do you “use” it? If so, how? I have a lovely plant (and even lovelier rosemary…) and I am not sure what to do with it! I’m just pleased to have my plant “buddies”, but at the same time I know that getting a haircut now and then is a healthy habit! So… what do you do with lavender? 🙂
Hi there, Yes, I sometimes used to make lavender ice cream, but can also really recommend this syrup recipe for cold drinks: https://wordsandherbs.com/2013/06/23/lavender-lemon-syrup/ Or simply cut some of it now it has started flowering and hang it upside down in a dark and dry airy place for a couple of weeks, then you can use it as a decoration or put it in little bags in drawers etc. 🙂
OOOHHHHH! THANKS!
I really like the concept of lavender ice cream!
Here’s that recipe too! 😀 https://wordsandherbs.com/2012/06/16/lavender-ice-cream/
